Depends, the M5 Comp does put down more power and has a better suspension set up plus that track favors power. The times are already skewed so I thought why not go crazy, none of it makes sense
I agree... it's fun to think about and guess.

But, as you said, that track favors power.

16 hp, is unnoticeable on a 2 ton car....shit, that's within the margin of error for dynos.

It's pure marketing..

(I've had several comp & non-comp cars in the past).

That being said, my M5, is the first time I've actually preferred the standard vs Comp.

Maybe just because I'm getting older.. and wanted something softer this time.

The only standout was my M4 Comp vs my M4 non-comp. the Comp rode much better.

Cannot wait till we see true heard to heads with the comp-non-comp... same day, same track, same driver.

Good times we live in.

I liked the commentary around the lack of turbo lag, which is a nod to the engineering of the hot vee cross bank exhaust inputs to the turbos.

agreed, but this is BMW so the power is still understated for both models. I drove both and almost bought the Comp but could do either with the horrible roads where I live. Comp has more road feel and seemed tighter at the price of even less comfort on these pothole laden pieces of asphalt. I'd handily take the Alpina out here since it solves those issues without giving up power. I'm getting old too, so I bought an X5 for its softer suspension

600hp is faster than 500hp down multiple straights, shocker! Straight after straight.

I do think TGT should re time times set by 'The American'... times are not comparable...

It was a great watch. I love Clarkson's take on things, even if I don't always agree with him. I love his willingness to just call it like he sees it. It's tough to say if I'd also take the Alpina over the M5, but I guess if I were in the position to get an M5, I could probably go Alpina and have another purpose-built car.

So the M5C would have easily beat the GT3RS. Interesting

Not for nothing, but Mike Skinner is an accomplished driver in his own right (Truck Series Champion) and yes he comes from NASCAR, but he can wheel, see below:

Also NASCAR does have road course races.

Just for perspective

The M4 GTS (the best production BMW ‘Ring time) ran a 7:27 around the ‘Ring.
The fastest 4 door car ran a 7:25.
The GT3RS 6:56.

No, 16 horsepower will not buy you half a minute on the Ring. I doubt 200 horsepower would.

The M5 is a brute for sure, but we don’t know the circumstances in which the RS time was set vs the M5.

I was referring to this specific track. I didn't expect any BMW to ever beat a GT3 around the Nurburgring

Thanks for posting! My 11yr old son and I watched it all. Can't beat these guys, best auto journal show period. Always loved the Alpinas, but they really dropped the ball on the front fascia. Looks anemic compared to the M...
