Cool Introducing the AWE Exhaust Suite for the BMW F90 M5. Available now.

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

Welcome to the new era of M5 and the option-packed levels of aggression that come with it. Presenting the AWE Exhaust Suite for the F90 M5:
  • Designed, engineered, and manufactured in-house at AWE
  • Available as valved SwitchPath™ or more unleashed Track Edition
  • SwitchPath™ and Track Edition Exhausts available as full catback or axleback
  • Performance Mid Pipes available separately
  • Peak gains of 4 hp and 4 ft-lbs of torque, max gains of 22 hp (at 6670 rpm) and 18 ft-lbs of torque (6670 rpm), at the wheels (SwitchPath™ Catback Exhaust)
  • 20.5 lb weight savings over stock with the Track Edition Catback Exhaust, and 16.5 lb weight savings with the SwitchPath™ Catback Exhaust
  • Performance Mid Pipes and catbacks feature a precision-engineered x-pipe
  • Catbacks are pure bolt-on for factory-like simplicity
  • Handcrafted from dual 3” U.S.-sourced CNC mandrel-bent .065” wall T304L stainless steel
  • Less is more: clean, straight-through design
  • Perfect fitment, guaranteed
  • AWE No Check Engine Light Guarantee
  • Lifetime warranty (one year on tip finishes)
The Options:

Options for all. Whether you’re looking to pipe up with a full catback, axleback, or adding a bit of aggression in the form of mid pipes, we’ve got you covered.

SwitchPath™ Exhaust

SwitchPath™ Catback:

The SwitchPath™ Catback Exhaust features dual 3” CNC mandrel-bent .065” wall T304L stainless steel tubing from downpipes to tip outlets with a precision-engineered X-pipe inbetween. Equipped with valved rear sections, the SwitchPath Catback retains all of the M5’s valve behavior when changing driving modes and/or using the exhaust button found on the console.

SwitchPath™ Axleback:

In axle-back form, the SwitchPath™ retains the M5’s factory mid-section, coming in right at the rear axle. The axle-back AWE Switchpath™ Exhaust maintains a 3” diameter, shaves weight from the rear, and retains the factory valve behavior.

Track Edition Exhaust

Track Edition Catback:

If raw and rowdy are your speed, the Track Edition Catback is your dose of steel. The Track Edition Exhaust retains all the engineering and precision of the SwitchPath™ Exhaust, including the X-pipe and 3” diameter tubing, minus the valves in the rear sections. The result? Constant rumble.

Track Edition Axleback:

The AWE Track Edition Exhaust in axle-back form provides the most cost-effective aggression in the lineup by retaining the M5’s factory mid-section and replacing the rear sections with Track Edition straight pipes.

Please note: These versions are known to get rowdy, and may be too much for many. For that reason, this particular version cannot be returned due to sound preference. Prepare yourself.

Performance Mid Pipes:

The Performance Mid Pipes replace the factory mid section with a 3” stainless steel X-pipe, mating to the factory axleback.

Upgrading options:

Equipping the Performance Mid Pipes or an axle-back with intentions to add another section later?

That’s a good thing. We’ve engineered the AWE Exhaust Suite for the M5 as a completely modular configuration that allows you to do just that, at any time. Simply add the desired configuration to your cart, and roar away.

Important fitment notes:

If you’re equipping the Performance Mid Pipes or an axle-back, cutting will be required.

Tip Options:

All tip options include the AWE logo and double-walling to ensure a mirror finish even under hard usage. All tips are individually adjustable, allowing depth into the bumper to be set according to personal taste.
  • 4” slash-cut diamond black tips
  • 4” slash-cut chrome silver tips

What’s in the box?

Complete SwitchPath™ or Track Edition Catback/Axleback, four 4” tips in desired finish, and all required installation hardware.

Of all the exhaust vids, I'm most impressed thus far with AWE and Remus... MP as well... At least in terms of the sound I'm looking for...

Curious, the first edition in the video, are the only mods the cat back exhaust? Or does it have x pipe, downpipes, etc?

Josh,
I take it when the valves are open, this is virtually a straight through system ?. What is your opinion on fitting just the axle back components, to our UK cars fitted with OPFs, and also leaving the cats in place ?. Essentially, this would be a rear silencer delete. I’m thinking this may be a way forward for me.
Do you think this will give the sound I am after, and would there be any loss of torque at all, by altering back pressure etc ?. TIA,

Hi! The only thing done to the launch edition model in the video is the full SwitchPath™ Catback, which includes an X-pipe. Factory downpipes.

If you're looking for a bit more thunder, yes the ABE will do the trick for you. It will be a bit louder with valve closed, too.

Maybe i don't understand your m5 system for exhausts yet, but the valve just closes 1 pipe exit on each side and that's it? My understanding on valved exhausts was that once the valves are closed, the exhaust has to work through a muffler instead.

But i dont see any muffler on our system, and just see 1 pipe being closed. Does it really make the car quieter?

Yep. Mufflers and resonators aren't always necessary to bring volume down / manipulate frequency. We utilized tubing geometry for volume control on this particular suite.

Ok thank you for your answer.

Another question, I went on your website to check out pricing. Can you please let me all the differences between the Track edition exhaust and the Switch path exhaust??

By looking at the pictures provided I only see the difference in the ability to place the valve on the Switch path exhaust. Is that what really yields the $900 difference between the 2 systems??

That is the difference. The valves we use are from an OEM supplier, of which also manufactures valving for mainstream auto makers. With that said, they're not exactly cheap assemblies, unfortunately.

Am I missing something or is this literally a straight pipe from the cat back... cant see a muffler, or resonance chamber etc anywhere in the pics.
