You're missing the subtleties of his praiseful comments, Trevor. It's about the total package. It is indeed 'magic' how BMW's tuned this car. I still scratch my head every time I take it out. Not easy to make a car with such dynamics so enjoyable at two-tenths normal road driving. Far from perfect, of course. But for a $150k luxury sedan (cheap relative to many alternatives), it's just about as close as they come.

It has a high performance V8, ceramic brakes, carbon fibre panels, premium suspension components…. so it has a lot in common with exotic super cars. It just happens to have 4 doors.

It's performance is similar to an M8. I had one. Super boring and slow compared to real supercars.

I think the CS badge finally means something, like catchpole said at the end of the video. The F82 M4 GTS was vastly misunderstood, depreciated alot, and people didn't buy them. This caused people to be upset at the price of the F80/F82 M3/M4 CS cars.
- Then the M2 CS came out, lots of negative perception about how it was so expensive and just some carbon bits. Its a huge leap on from the other M2s in my opinion, and its still impossible to convince an M2C owner of that. - Now the M5 CS came out, and its a big leap on from a regular M5C (a larger leap then the M2/M3/M4 CS is on paper). I wish they made more of them so the markups didn't take hold. The reality is, anyone with a CS badged BMW, you have an all time great car and just enjoy it hell out of it. Life is too short to worry about about depreciation and collectibility of sedans and coupes. BMW makes the greatest cars in the world now, everyone else is playing for 2nd. |

yeah.. imo the M5 is pretty numb in general. Digs are fun, but after that it's very...dull to me. Would never say it's a slouch or anything like that, and it is indeed very impressive for a 4000 pound car. But supercar and M5 should NEVER be in the same sentence, ever. |

Yes, modern BMWs and most other cars today are numb. The M5 CS is not numb, and this is part of its allure.

So when BMW makes a regular car thats special, thats great, means they've made a usable car that is also super special and engaging to drive. This applies to Mercedes as well, and Audi (though Audi has rarely made a car thats as engaging to drive). The CS cars (especially in the case of the M5 CS) you've taken cars that are great for their everyday drivability. That sucks, cause it creates a problem of do you use it or collect it. I'd rather this great steering and chassis dynamics just applied to the regular cars as well. |

Oh boy this thread is starting to attract some hate. It's like a reverse circle jerk. Not sure if there's a name for that. Outward triangle jerk? 🙄

Love Henrys reviews. The M5 CS is a car that doesnt make a lot of sense on paper, but they nailed it. Most special car BMW has produced since the E9x M3.
Doesn't meet the criteria for a supercar in my opinion, even factoring in the performance. For it to qualify as a supercar it needs a sense of exotic, and a screaming ideally tuneful engine. Definitely the ultimate German bruiser though. |

No matter how great something is, someone is going to chime in with their professional opinion about how it's not.
This car is fantastic.

I think it is a very solid review. And, for those few people who continue to hate on the car, I am surprised how they are doing so without actually driving one first. But hey, everyone can be a keyboard warrior these days.
The reviews say that it is better all around than the M5 Comp, yet people who have never driven the CS claim that can't be possible. Sounds more like sour grapes than anything else. Personally, I don't claim that it is better than the standard M5 or the Comp because I have had very little seat time in those cars. All I know is that I absolutely love my M5 CS. It is an all around fantastic performer. I like how he compared it to the E39 M5. that was a great car and I absolutely loved it. The Madonna movie was just icing on the cake as well back then. He is also right about the engine sound. It is just too quiet. I'm over 3,000 miles now and it has opened up a bit, but still leaves a lot to be desired.
