Brake pads and rotors

I just got the rear brake sensor 1400 miles to go notification today. Would like to know is dealer the best place to go or we have after market options? Also do I need to replace rotors as well or just brakes. I'm assuming let the front ones run until the sensor notifies.

Thanks for everyone's help on this.

Having replaced three sets of rear pads and one set of fronts, with one set of front rotors, I cannot locate any other than stock rotors for front or rear.

Porterfield is making the low dust pads, but they will not be track suitable. The stock pads are.

Bmw will likely recommend replacing the rotors. My rears have lasted through multiple track days and several pad changes. They are very scalloped however. The BMW rotors are very good, and not that expensive. Replacement is not that difficult except for the electronic parking brake, which is a pain.

This where I'm at right now. Rotors look fine to me but let's see. Emailed my service advisor.

Looks fine to me. I won't be surprised if they recommend replacement, but that's just safety on their part. If they let you do it without doing the rotors, I'd go for it.

Your discs look perfectly fine.
You should see mine after about 10 track days and 40,000km.

I'm thinking just buying OEM pads and get the pads replaced from a local shop I know. Do we know exact part number of rear pads and also sensor.

Maybe something like this? I probably could have gotten two more track days out of these. I replaced them. They were cheap by comparison to my GT-R

Because I'm stupid. You said rear. Rear pad number on box. Front and rear sensors are on the invoice I took a picture of. Rear is the one that is not on the picture above

Make SURE your shop knows how to handle Electronic Parking Brakes.

They are VERY easy to screw up. If you don't have the tool to withdraw them (I don't, none of the scan tools I can buy cheaply cover the f90), you have to do it manually with Torx tools. This is a pain. Very hard to do when the brakes are hot (at the track). But it's doable.

Ah, similar

Lucky enough not to have the cracks yet I see protruding from some of the drilled holes.

Just came back from a track day today but didn't look in detail if those hairline cracks appeared.

The discs are this nice blueish color though

So I ended up buying genuine rear pads and sensor from bmw parts hub. Local dealer said will install for $225. There price was $517 with parts. I paid $163 shipped for them.

So another update:

bmw had an option to add maintenance plus plan for $900 and that will cover all maintenance including brakes till 3 year 36k miles. Additional year after will be $1799 for 4 year 50k miles. I ended up doing 3 year 36k.

How is that the rear pads give in way before the front ones? Happened to me too, but a bit puzzled considering the most braking force is on front ones?

The best car parts are very useful to maintaining your vehicle life. You can get pads and rotors that upgrade and improve the look of the vehicle.

I don't know bud. My rear were just replaced and if I can't get front ones before 36k miles replaced as well I think it's a steal.
