AWD and tire replacement

As a former Subaru enthusiast, it was incredibly important to always have equal tread depth on every tire to prevent screwing up the diffs.

Since the AWD on the F90 isn’t always full time, does this still apply? Can you treat tire replacements like you could on any RWD? I’m wondering if this is the case since the front tires are slightly different sizes than the rears.

More important for equal tread wear on the front pair and the rear pair, not all four at the same time. The fronts won't wear as much as the car is still rear drive until traction necessitates the front to intervene.

Normally you need to stay within 3/32"( 2.38 mm ) front to back for AWD
Interesting is that you can drive the car as RWD to and do burnout
But after while what happened with rolling diameter being off
I guess if you noticed the big difference you just change it to RWD until you get new set.
So nice like a switch, on/off

For people that are concerned about rolling diameter, here are some numbers to compare from 275 to 285 size both are on 35 and 20" wheels ( this is calculated formula )

On first picture there is a note about width of the rims. Which stats that generally tire width will change 2/10 for every 1/2" in rim width

Note that the winter setup is the same tyre all round for 20" and for 19" you can run 265/40r19 and 285/40r19 as a setup as well - all sanctioned by BMW.

Lemetier might be along to confirm the details on how to configure idrive for this soon.
