Thanks for the help. Temps dropped down to 25 degrees, it's so great to actually have traction 😄

Finally received all of the components to build my winter tire set. I followed Miko M's lead on tires with the Pirelli ScottoZero 3s at the Tire Rack clearance pricing of $600 for the set. I ordered a set of the 706M wheels which came in last week. I picked up the set yesterday afternoon from the tire installer and put them on the car this morning. So far I'm very happy with the ride quality after a short test drive to calibrate the tire pressure sensors.

Live in New Jersey so it snows here but not like Chicago region. Instead of winter tires I'm thinking of getting all season tires. Any suggestions? If i go all season can i run 285/35/20 all around on the OEM wheels? or even 275/35/20 all around? Need help ASAP because i think its going to snow next week. I really do like the idea of the 285/35/20 winter tires all around.

I would go 285/35/20 all around
Sense you are getting new tires might as well get winter tires, price would be the same if not less.
They perform so much better then all season, not only in snow but in dry too.
Your breaking distance will be shorter plus it accelerates better from the dig.
You can't beat this price, see picture
The decision is up to you.

I grew up in the NY/NJ/CT area and have lived in Chicago. I think the snow is more comparable than you think. It all depends on the year and weather pattern. But the main difference is that Chicago is essentially flat unlike the northeast. Hills make a difference. I think if you are getting a second set, winter tires are the way to go. They help in all cold conditions not just snow.

So another thing. I got rim and tire insurance. The service adviser at the dealer said any tires would be covered as long as its on the car. Does anyone know how true this is and some experienced this?

If i go aftermarket rims will they be covered also under the insurance?

About to order my winter tires right now and get them installed on OEM rims.

They should, I asked specifically if I buy aftermarket wheels and they say yes.
But also depends what insurance they offered, mine is Road Vantage, I believe most Bmw is selling this and they cover aftermarket wheels and tires

You can't beat the price and they are great for winter.

I have the stock staggered setup. If I buy a square set of 285/35/20 will they fit? If not, where are people finding a square set of 706M?

All our cars are coming with staggered setup 275 front and 285 back with performance tires.

For winter Bmw recommendation is square 275 or staggered 275/285

And yes you can put 285 square on your stock wheels

I didn't see a need for winter wheels because I will get new forged wheels and, new tires that are much wider and stickier for more grip

Thanks for the quick response, I’m going to buy the square 285 Sotto3s on tire rack and put them on my staggered setup instead of buying a second set of rims TPMS, etc
