Black or two-tone wheels? Decisions, decisions
Looking to pick up a remaining 2018 and pickings are starting to become slim. Haven't had a black car in a while so I figured it was time. Now the wheel choice. Have two cars that are almost identical builds save for the wheel and interior trim. I like both trim equally so that's not a big issue. But the wheels are tough. I know everyone has their own opinion and there was a similar thread about painting wheels black on an SG car.
Would one wheel hide brake dust any better? Is the black pretty durable? If I knew which car was less likely to have brake squeal, I'd choose that one in a second. Picture for comparison. These aren't the exact cars, but just pictures I grabbed. If one actually had CCB I'd be all over it. |

Completely black out your car. I know many people don't like the look, but I always think it is menacing.

Subjective to say the least--- Im not a big murdered out fan so I favor the classier (to me) two tone option.
Color is also key--- I like the two toners on Black and white cars but other colors might offset a full black wheel better. Again, highly subjective.

On the black car, I believe it needs another color. I would go with two tone. I have black wheels on my D.Grey M5. Black wheels are always dusty. However, I have no brake dust, if you have an option of the two cars, get the one with the C. Ceramic brakes.

I think the bi-color wheels are a nice contrast against an otherwise black exterior.

The CCBs do look tasty behind those two-tones.

One more thing to consider apart from aesthetics is that the 20" black wheels are cast wheels while the 2-tone are forged.
My understanding is that cast wheels are heavier and less resistant to impacts (pot holes) than a forged ones in general. I prefer the black ones myself. You could also get the 2-tone modified to be all black by a shop that does that kind of work.

I think the only reason they are two-tone is because of the asymmetry in the spokes as they meet the hub. Someone else pointed that out that if you look closely where the spokes meet the hub, they are all different lengths. Very odd design, but you don't notice it when they are black thus the two-tone look. The comp wheels are symmetrical. Yes, I have a guy who can powder coat them black if desired. So could start two-tone and always change it if need be. I'm also considering a satin wrap. So in that case, I think the all black would look better. |

Yup, the two tone 20's are basically just the black 20's with a machine finished face. Same wheel.

I got the bi-color 20' because I use it only for winter. The black color wheel can look like steelies in the winter if not washed often. |
