Yeah I don’t think people really know the underlying mechanical differences in the 100k cars they buy sometimes. They just see 8>5 so it must be better, but as it has been reiterated many times it is the same exact powertrain and as heavy or heavier than a m5. Earlier pre 2020 m5s had launch control issues but it’s been shown that was corrected with some 2020 models and LCIs. Which is why they have been able to get sub 11s 1/4 mile times. Again it’s the same exact engine in the m8, it doesn’t have any magical differences just because it looks more like a sports car. This isn’t like the gt63 where they actually gave it more hp than the e63.

I had my 550i weighed while setting up the geometry, came in at 4124lbs. It has lightweight wheels and OPF/resonator delete from the exhaust mind. I think it was also slightly under 1/4 tank.

No, that is not a fact. If it were a FACT, that would mean all tunes are the exact same. If it were a FACT, then all drivers would be the exact same. Hell, look at Car & Driver versus Motor trend versus Road & Track and see the wild swings in their testing of the M8C, and M5C. I guarantee you if you put up valid Dragy results, or 1/4 mile strip tickets with your results, somebody with a M5C tuned car has beat them. That way you won't have to tell us what tune you've done since it's a secret. Because of course you're comparing apples to apples. You said your tuned car versus a tuned M5C. You did not say my tuned car, with meth, and so on versus a tuned only M5C.

The first race he got a better launch, as I was not paying attention, lol and was ahead most of the 1/2 mile. However I caught him by the end. My trap was 160, his was 156. Next run, I got better launch than him, was ahead by a decent margin, 3-4 cars the entire run. Again, 159 for me, and I think 155 trap for him. He never closed the gap. And I couldn't tell from being in front if he was catching me, but based on my higher trap speed the answer to that is, no, I was actually putting more distance between us the further we went on paper. 3rd run, we both got decent launches, and were together to about the 1/8th mile, and I slowly walked away, and by 1/2 mile I had again 3-4 car lengths between us. Again my trap was 159, and his 154-155. He had JB4 which is a few more ponies added than a racechip adds to mine. He also had eventuri, which is minimal gains, but I was stock intake with the charcoal filter delete, also 95 octane. Im not sure, but I believe he had added some race gas they were selling on site. Weights are negligible as you can find sources saying m5 is lighter, and some saying m8 is lighter. Depends on carbon ceramic brakes or not, as well as the wheels forged or not vs the cast heavy wheels. M5 with CCB, and Forged 789m wheels is likely 100-200LBs lighter than the listed weight on BMW website. And same with M8. So depends on which source you are quoting, and which options are on the car. FWIW, there was also an older Lambo Gallardo, and an R8 at the event. both heavily modded, dont know to what extent, but for sure TT, plus tuning, and im sure a lot more. They both had ZERO problem posting well over 200MPH at the event. I believe I saw the Lambo hit 221MPH, and R8 210-215MPH, those are both dusting pretty much ANY M5, or M8, tuned or not. LOL, I dont care whats done to the BMWs. No m5 or M8 ive seen hit 220 in the 1/2 mile. Could be wrong. I believe the Evolve m5 with @1000 hp, barely cracked 200mph in 1/2 mile. both gallardo and r8 would be blowing past the evolve m5. Which would be blowing by pretty much any m8 ive seen so far. From what I was told they were both well over 1200 HP Last edited by jnotrom711; 11-22-2022 at 09:14 PM.. |
