Crayon Scent

Love the classic [crayon] scent of my E85 Z4 but I understand it might not be for everyone, especially when they don't know that it's just degrading insulation causing that smell.

Ozone generator won't do anything and the chlorine-like smell gives me bad headaches long after I've let the car air out. Needless to say, it also doesn't last since the insulation is still in the car.

Looking for any recommendations that don't smell bad (pine, vanilla, fabreeze, or anything else cheap you can find at Walmart or local auto store).

Appreciate any input so I can get my wife to ride in my Z4.

Can you pull up the carpet behind the seats & remove any insulation visible? Then replace it with a different acoustic dampening product.

You could try Koch Chemie Fresh Up. It's not cheap because it comes in 1L bottles but it may work. I really don't know though, I tend to think that masking never helps. The scent is a fresh laundry type scent. I tried the cheaper Sonax odor eliminator and didn't really like the smell.

I use this. Helps brings back the original interior smell. Without making the car smell like an Uber black car.

Coincidently I just pulled everything out of the car to do a beige-to-black swap. As you can see - no insulation behind the seats. My guess the smell is coming from the insulation in front of the dashboard - a task I wouldn’t want to take on.

If Koch Chemie doesn’t work out, I’ll give this a try as well.
