Thank you naturally aspirated V10.
911 Turbo S has more tq than the M5 will and a real LC .

So the special edition M5 can handle 600hp with the DCT, but the new one with the same HP can't? I don't understand why they don't improve their transmissions. Sad, and the fact that you can't get RWD ruins the M5, for me at least.

I don't see any E63 AMG's turning the Nurburgring in 7:55 nor many other cars for that matter. The only big 4 door that beat it was a Porsche Panamera. No big Merc's or Audi's only the M5. Look it up.

And it if you wish to take three of your friends along you can still do it in

Nothing to be ashamed of with our cars.
Actually Sport Auto had ran the ring with E63 at 7:55, and that was the previous generation too.

I just turned in my 2014 M5 for a 2017 X6M I went from the DCT to the Zf/Xdrive setup Granted, the X6M is a huge pig, but anyone who compares the performance of the double clutch to the ZF has never driven one after the other for extended periods The double clutch is SO superior it's not even close Don't believe what BMW is trying to tell you. There is nothing I miss more from my M5 than the tranny.

It's good, but it's not close to the double clutch. Trust me on this.

Something tells me quite a few people will love this new M5. ZF autos are used in a lot of performance cars, there's a reason for that.

For everyone who's complaining about it being too big, did you forget they introduced an M2 not that long ago? Or if you really want a 4 door, you have an M3 which is about the size of the previous M5 if I'm not mistaken.

Too many people think that the world will stay the same for them Life goes on...

Yeah, first of all BMW VP already said the new M5 is much better, so we should all wait before we just outright dismiss it.

As for those who said cars like Porsche Turbo S, Huracan, GTR, and etc. has more torque and has DCT. Well, Turbo S's torque is 700Nm (750Nm in overboots), Huracan is 450Nm, GTR is 652Nm.

Are people confused between HP and Torque?

Current M5 is already at 700Nm. Getrag has another DCT that can handle 750Nm which the Ferrari 488 uses, but nothing higher spec. than that. So if new M5 has over 750Nm, either BMW and Getrag have to develop a new one, or use another one from another manufacture, which I guess the indication is ZF's auto box.

I must have missed that one. My point was that you don't see many of the big four doors doing laps like that. I think its incredibly impressive.

Yes it will. But without my 100k. Pretty much that simple.

Cheers,

We need a Nürburgring time for a good reference of comparison. We need slalom numbers, 1/4 times, skid pad G, 60-0 braking, top speed, etc. You just can't tell how good a car performs by say one track time because it becomes down to the driver but with the numbers, that's a good way to gauge vehicle performance. Designing a car specifically for one track isn't right. We need more general benchmarks like I said. It would be good if they could adopt this back into the world but it would hurt sales if people see how crappy their car is in comparison to another and not buy the newer version that has the same worse results but this is how it should be, everywhere. People who choose to buy for style and fan boyism, just don't bother comparing performance if it indeed is inferior. Just accept it sucks and spending thousands of dollars more to get less is your own fault for not seeing the test performance results first.

The DCT makes M special. I've seen both in action and... Well the DCT is just on another level. The 8 speed is very good but now a 550 and M5 will share the same gearbox and basically the same engine and drive train.. So basically just buy the M550i and tune it.

Okay folks.

1. This report is not confirmed.

2. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt BMW would invest in a DCT gearbox for the F10 just to drop it for the F90. BMW started planning the F90 the day the F10 was released. These cars are planned for YEARS.

3. I don't think we'll ever see a slushbox in an M car.

4. Did I mention this report is all hearsay and NOT official from BMW?
