Winter Tires or All Season?

Picking up a new to me M5 in a week. It's currently on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S but wondering what you guys run in the winters here.

Do you go All Seasons or Winter tires? Do you swap just the tires or have a whole winter wheel setup? Any recommendations on tires and wheels?

Thanks!

I use PS4-AS in NJ, they work well.

I have 706M wheels that I dismount and remount tires on for seasonal changeovers. Best setup I have had so far are Pirelli SottoZero III Performance Version in OE sizes (275/285/30/ZR20). They are not OE, and thus not star marked. They are also one speed rating and one load rating lower than the OE PS4Ss, but I don’t think that’s an issue in the winter. While I wouldn’t go with non-OE star marked summer tires (for which I use OE star marked PS4S), I think this non-OE option is best for winter.

In my opinion, true winters are better for harsh climates, but plenty of owners here use AS are and satisfied. To me, there is a more significant decrease in performance from OE PS4S to AS than there is to the SottoZeros.

I wonder if I grab an AS pair now and just rotate my summer tires until they're dead.

I bought a snowblower last year so you're welcome for the lack of snow :/

That’s precisely what I am doing. Using OEM Pirellis during the summer, AS during the winter. I was able to find a reasonably priced set of M8 RIMs locally so now I will just swap the whole set. Once OEM Pirellis run out will likely get summer PS4S and keep doing the bi-annual swap. Costco charges only $50 each time

And yes I bought a $1100 snowblower a couple of years ago as well that I am yet to use.

For me (though it’s climate/location dependent) sometime around mid April.
