water in passenger footwell

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Guys need help. 2019 M5, 40k miles, car in Florida
Dealing with not so common issue: I have a lot of water in my passenger footwell as well as transmission tunnel. On the transmission tunnel it’s on the drivers side as well. It’s 100% ac related issue but I can’t really track it down.
I am relating it to the downpipe installation since it happened few days after my shop installed them. Car was totally fine before. Have somebody ever dealt with similar issue?

A/C condenser drain hose plugged? Total Stab in the dark. 20 years ago I had a car repaired at dealer (Honda Accord) and the tech crushed the drain hose between the frame and the new suspension member. Result....after a few days of running the A/C lots of water in the car.

Yeah I think it’s definitely plugged/melted something wrong with it. I was searching forums and can’t really find any culprit for this issue on g30/f90. Do you know by any chance location for the ac drain underneath this car?

This happened to my wife’s Cayenne and only thing I could think of is as mentioned the AC hoses being clogged. Not sure if the bmws could have the same issue but it was a fairly easy fix just unclogging it.

It is pretty interesting you saying it could be related to the downpipes. I wonder how that would be possible.

Hope you can get it resolved asap

My theory is that drain lines located in the same area where exhaust pipes are located. Maybe during the install they got somehow damaged.

B I N G O.....

If you look at the bottom of the condenser in the car and find the hose, word to the wise, resist the temptation to pull if off the condenser IN the car...trust me...you will not be happy, you'll open the flood gates. Took 4 hours in huge dryer at laundry mat to dry my car's carpets 1980 Honda Accord.

You might find some indication of the tube location in real oem with some searching. Plenty of people have installed down pipes with no issues but my guess is the condenser drains down into the transmission tunnel area below the dash and the secondary down pipes are right in that area. If I had not just taken my car off the lift I would go look.

I know on the F95 (X5M), the A/C drain tube is on the passenger side exiting between the trans and the chassis. No doubt the F90 is the same. Everything under there is tightly packed together, so it's kind of hard to spot the drain tube.
Installer of the downpipes probably crushed it and the A/C condensation backed up into the passenger compartment.

My wife had the same issue on her 6 series a few years ago and it was the ac drain tune getting gunked up over the years. It just needed the flap to be popped open which dumped all the water. It was located between the exhaust and transmission on the passenger side.

Drain hose is located “above” trans on the passenger side. You will see a black hose behind the trans.

for anyone unlucky to face the same problem: we had to replace the drain tube, in order to do so, you need to remove dashboard and disassemble the car almost all the way to the AC evaporator. Then you also need to drop or lower the transmission. ITS A PAIN.
After all of that you will be able to replace this stupid plastic tube. Problem solved, no more leaks.

P.S. Drain was perfectly clean inside. The rubber/plastic end of the tube lost its oval shape that caused the leak from the center console to the footwell. That's very common on G05, on G30 also can happen but much more rare.

Why not just trim the end of it vice replacing the whole thing. Can’t imagine the hourly bill on that work. Not too mention the rattles one will expect in the future.

What exactly do you want to trim?

So the guys that did your downpipes knocked the drain it back into the ac box?

No, I crunched myself underneath the car after the dp install to check if the drain was operational. It was. And there is no way dp install could affect it. So it wasn’t dp install related.
Here is few pics of disassembly and bad part.

That first pic is the stuff of nightmares. Glad to hear you got this resolved!
