Marriage is hard.

Marriage is harder when you're in lockdown/quarantine.

Just sayin'.

Nope. Not at all.

However, my wife's a healthcare management professional (3 Masters degrees and halfway through a fourth) who usually travels a few days a month and works at her office downtown.

I'm an airline captain-- and by definition I'm usually gone a lot.

Now, we're both at home in lockdown in a small house. We're both Type A personalities who value our "alone time"-- and that's been taken away by the state's lockdown.

Additionally, my wife's up at 5am every morning, and I'm a night owl who likes to sleep in.

It makes for a different dynamic than we're used to-- which is very stressful.

Workable, but stressful.

So, marriage is hard, but the current conditions make it even harder.

Wifey and I have always been pretty much "keep top ourselves" folks, so this isn't a huge change. Still, 24x7xmonths-on-end of togetherness could get old. I don't even get to escape for an outside ride for an hour or so. At least not until it's safe to go to the hospital if need be.

I used to grab a few brews with a friend of mine at a local bar once or twice a month. That's a no-go now. He owns some property near me with a pole barn where we could sit apart and have a few beers by a fire. That may be my saving grace here soon.

While re-arranging my home office today, I started looking for a desk upgrade. This one is just shy of $10k, which is about $9800 over my budget, but damn, it's a nice looking desk.

My wife's guiding philosophy in life:
"I talk, therefore I am".

This is a far cry from what Granny used to tell me:
"Silence is golden".

Yes, the quarantine is hard. Just sayin'!

We are like you guys...but the opposite. I'm the one who can't sleep and I'm usually up around 3:00am each morning. She stays up late and sleeps in.

But she's an introvert and I'm the extrovert.

But I am fortunate enough to still be working, so I am out of the house. But when we are there together for extended times, we know that each other needs our "alone" time.

For me it's the garage, for her it's her art studio.

I'm saving that show for when I get the creepy cabin fever @ level 10, I'm only at 7 now

Edit: with these strange days, roads are friendly, my son is driving more (learners permit) he already has 100 hours since September 2019

one Sunday morning @ 6:30am (not a soul) out I let him put it in sport plus on a straightaway.

I wanted this m2 to be automatic during the ordering process but realized my son would one day have it, 6MT was not picked for my driving excitement it was picked so that my son would focus on purely driving not on his cellphone (can't scroll Instagram driving in the city)

Edit edit my son drove it around the bmw welt track, never drove manual before only YouTube videos, 2 dozen people watching yet never stalled! He has more attachment to the car than I do

Reading some of the above posts makes me appreciate my situation a little more. The girlfriend and I have been together almost 4 years now. Two arguments in 4 years and both were because of sex. Both times, I was exhausted and fell asleep on her. I'm the extrovert and she is the introvert, but we both hate the general public....of our small town anyway. She still has small kids at home, otherwise I'd move her ass in with me. I've already raised two kids and I'm not trying to relive that shit. She alternates her weeks with her kids, so she's at her house with kids one week, then at mine the following week. It works out to where we don't spend so much time together that we get on each others nerves and always ready to see each other when it's time. It's almost the perfect set up. She lives her life as mommy, has her time to do what she needs done around her place and I get to use that time to take care of what I need. This gives us ample time to spend time together after and not be stressed about other things we have going on. I help her with projects around her house and she helps me keep my house (and my car) clean on the weekends. I'm a lucky guy.

I finally broke down and checked my retirement funds. Not nearly as bad as I had feared. Down about 13.5% since this started. Huge jump yesterday helped out a bit. Almost had another big jump today before it fizzled.

I braced myself a few weeks ago. Retirement down $20k. Not so bad. It's long term anyway. Stock portfolio down 20%. Shit. It's slowly.. SLOWLY recovering. I comfort myself with the hope that we will recover eventually. I haven't traded since February because I had no idea what was going to happen. I'm still working and wondering if I should just buy. Everything is just so uncertain.
