V1 Gen2 Reading Laser From Gesture Controls

Does anybody have the V1Gen2 that isn't having issues with it triggering a laser warning from gesture controls? I sold my V1 because of the issue and was excited that they came out with the gen2 so I picked one up and I'm still having issues. Anybody else?

Do people get a false signal from the R7. I've used a Valentine detector for 20 years and was hoping to stay with the brand but this may be a deal breaker. I live in VA and detectors are illegal (not that I would run it illegally), but the inability to detect a V1 is a plus.

My passport 9500ix is triggered by gesture control. Going to either get the Rodenso Pro M or the Uniden R7.

I think you need to just put some electrical tape over the bottom part of the rear sensor. It won't totally block radar but should block enough laser to not trigger with the gesture control.

Besides, laser detection is ostensibly useless. If the detector can pick up a laser it means you have probably already been pinged. Honestly, if there was an option to disable laser detection you should probably just turn it off.

R7 gives no falses.....I love my R7.

I was a huge Valentine 1 fan, too. I had one in my car from 2004 up until December. However, I could not deal with the false alarms anymore and it's ridiculous to have to rig together some electrical tape to cover a sensor on a $120k car (from a supposedly top-notch $500 radar).

Was not impressed at all by the V1 version 2......R7 all day every day over the V1.

Thanks for the feedback. While I don't really use the gesture controls, I do think it's crazy to put tape up to fix the issue in such a nice car. The reason I like the laser detection is not for when the cop is pinging me but somebody in front of me. It's my understanding, that the detectors should still pick that up to provide some notice.

You don't tape the front sensor, you tape the rear one.

And it's highly unlikely you will detect a laser ping from a car in front of you. Not impossible, but not very likely.
In all of the years I had a Valentine 1, it never once detected an actual laser. The only thing it ever did was false alarm for laser with some taillights on newer cars, and from sunlight at certain times of day.

If you are worried about laser, then you should consider ALPriority.

Plus, you live in the absolute worst place in the world for driving above the speed limit. 81 mph anywhere in VA is a misdemeanor criminal violation. Radar detectors illegal. Laser detectors illegal.

I just checked the RD forums and I believe you can disable the rear laser detection on the V1G2.

I messed with the settings and went for a drive. It's picking up both front and rear laser signals. Options are for me to return and get the R7 or keep it, turn off laser or tape gesture controls and wait for Valentine come out with an update. I'm leaning towards just returning and getting the R7, but I will email Valentine first and ask them. Will update the thread with the response.

Are you opposed to doing an installed setup like ALP + Radenso? That's what I am tentatively leaning towards doing.

Ordered the V1G2 on the 20th last month to replace my V1G1, just canceled the order after reading they didn't fix the laser gestures issue. Soon as i get the refund I'm going to order an R7.

Had the same issue so returned it the gen 2.

Trust me, you will be happy with the R7. I don't see an update coming to fix this on the V1....I thought the whole point of a new generation radar would have been to fix that very issue. Otherwise, what was the point of a new model?

It's obvious Valentine is behind the times in that facet.

Turn off your gesture control in the settings and see if it is still faulting laser alerts. I just sent mine back for laser faults and I turned off my gesture control and all my other assistance systems to try and narrow it down. I hooked up my V1 Gen2 to a 12v jumper in my house and laser was still occasionally going off. I have read that gesture control can affect it but try it with it off and see.

Tried turning gesture controls off, but that did not work. Only way to stop the false alarms is to turn off laser entirely because it is triggering both front and rear. Valentine is closed for COVID, and has not responded to my email. I'm probably just going to return the unit and get the R7. I know picking up laser for somebody else to save me is unlikely, but I would prefer to have it rather than not. It doesn't make sense to put tape on the car or spend $500 on a detector that you can't use all the features of when there is another one on the market that has potentially better range and all the features work.

The office is closed. You have to email marchgen2@valentine1.com. They will send you a shipping label. I just sent mine out yesterday. I believe my unit was faulting for laser when it shouldn't be.

I did a lot of diagnosis to pinpoint if it was my car or the unit. Unit went off outside on a table and inside in the living room. lol

Thanks for that email address! Just got my order cancelled and will probably wait for Radenso's Theia when it gets released sometime this year
