Yeah the sounds are normal. The dealer told me not much they can do its the compound on the break pads. Some get it and some don't. They can shave them down but it doesn't last forever. There are kevlar replacements out there if you really want to change it.

must vary from country to country then because BMW certainly pay for it over here in the UK

A £100K premium vehicle shouldn't sound like an old bus when stopping full stop

Have any of you actually had your pads checked, mine were checked and were shot, by strange coincidence all Brake pads worldwide were on back order and couldn't be got for a month, Emmmm

So I was waiting for brake pads for a few months. No communication to the dealerships about the issue or the change, but the new pads were installed and so far quiet. I waited close to two months for the parts. I only have about 50 miles on them, but mine were so bad previously.

I still don't understand why BMW can't make or source a pad that doesn't squeal. I've had several AMG's and some P-cars that have been whisper quiet and still had excellent brakes.
In fairness the Porsches have the issue too - Porsche even took time to make a video about the topic.
M just posted a brakes video on YouTube:

I get mild squeaking after washing my car only so far. Well I had squeaking upon delivery, but after bedding the brakes and doing 1 hard brake per day (from 70 down to maybe 20) they’re whisper quiet. I do about 100 miles a day on average so it’s less braking than it seems.

Just ordered my pads from Girard @ ACG! Unfortunately they are sold out, and it will be a couple of weeks before they get here.

I'm going to replace the pads as well w/ aftermarket. The final straw was the other day in the city. The old parking garages in the West Village of Manhattan have now all been taken over by residential or retail. My wife and I had an apartment there for years, so I "knew" the hood very well and was going to park 1/2 block from my lunch meeting on Jane st. SInce I haven't had to park a car down there in a year or so, I expected all the same. However all were gone and I was driving around incensed for 40 min looking for a lot! All through little side streets and some avenues. EVERY TIME I HAD TO STOP THE BRAKES WOULD SQUEAL!!!!!! It was embarrassing and added to my aggravation! I find it disgraceful that such a uber sedan as this, has this problem...
What's the consensus on best aftermarket at this point?

I changed the pads to the carbon ones offered at ACG Automotive.
(858) 633-1017 - Gerrard, he was great!

I just drove 350 miles with the new pads and this is what i learned.

1) No noise whatsoever.
2) completely clean wheels, no brake dust and funny enough
the rust i was seeing on my wheels is no longer there.
3) The car does not have the same BWM stopping power that it had when i picked up the car but the difference is minimal as i mostly drive in the city. For me, it was really worth the change as i will never take
the car to the track.

I have been driving BMW's for 30 years and have never had this issue. My last car was an F10 and there was no noise at all.

Come on BMW! $120K car and it sounds like a junker out of the gate?

I guess spending $700 for the pads + $375 installation is not something i should worry about but you would think as we have all spent a lot of money on this car we wouldn't have to make such a change.

Now i'm a happy M Driver once again. Finally!
Looks like this answers my question above, i'm ordering them today. Thanks for the post!

Quick update. I complained enough to get escalated to BMW Executive Customer Service. They are replacing all breaks and rotors.

The loud brake squeal noise and crazy black brake dust is due to the cheap oem pads they use.........I had the issues and fixed it by replacing the pads with Porterfields r4s street pads...just call them and order direct.....now I have zero squeal and less dust

I took my 2019 M5 in last week for several issues. Mentioned the break squeal problem. They gave me a copy of the attached.

This is mine at 22k KMs, after a fast run on the highway, few track days, lots of curvy roads:

Come on man. You'll scare the newbies. This is metal on metal from backing plate worn down.

Did the brake service indicator go off?

Having the same issue here with my '19 COMP. I ignored it at first but this is getting too annoying.

For those who bought the ACG or Porterfield brake pads and have had them in for a while....how is the progress? Seems that most people are happy with them...although there are a few reports of the squeal coming back.

Also does it make a difference if i order this from ACG or Porterfield?

Thanks!!

I've had them for about two years and they've been fine.

They started to squeal about 3 months ago but very mild and goes away with hard braking.

No difference between ACG and Porterfield.

Nuts this is the only option at this point in time as there were plenty of options for F10 M5's.

Good luck.

Very helpful, thanks Jose!

I see you are in Miami..I am as well. I'm not a do-it-yourselfer so I'll need to take this to a shop. Do you recommend anyone in the area?
