Agreed. The E39 M5 was best part of $200k almost 20 years ago, and that was way more money then than it is now. In real money terms the M5 (like most cars) has not only gotten substantially more powerful/safer/feature packed over they years, but cheaper as well.

I'm ordering an M5 or M5 Comp soon. The reviews have me thinking NOT going competition now as I won't be tracking my car at all and don't want to lose the comfortable ride when just cruising around town or down the highway.
When I track BMW's I do it at the Performance Centers only using THEIR cars! I do like a stiffer suspension which was why I was waiting for the Competition package but not if it is at the expense of dialing down enough in comfort mode to enjoy in typical daily driving. Seems more reviews I have seen have noted the harsher ride over the standard M5. |

I actually preferred a slightly worse handling but more comfortable M5 over a track focused one. I'll have to see what the situation is next year come purchase time. If it truly is the case I can either try to negotiate a good price or look into a slightly used model (First adopters trading in for comp packs lol) |

Really disappointed with the driving experience so far and was hopping the M5 comp would solve those issues. That artificial speaker exhaust sound has to go, it doesn't even match and further separates you from the feedback. If MB and Porsche can figure out their steering feel so should BMW. |

Hello Folks
So the M5 Competition now also has an OPF (GPF). Did any of the reviewers mention anything about it? M2 board is melting because of the OPF in the M2 Competition.... I see not much such crying over here?

At least for the M2C, US will 100% not get the OPF while EU will 100% get it.
I hardly assume this will be exactly the samw for the M5 competition, no OPF for US market. All cars at Ascari where EU models, so all reviews you guys have about the M5C are at least for now based on cars equipped with OPF.

It always amazes me how people seem to make a fuss and take it personal. If you own a competition package, then wait for the replacement rather than buy the first run and complain when your intended choice comes to market. If you are afraid of LCIs then better avoid any current gen car cause all of them facelift products 3-4 years into the start of series. It is that simple. |

I just don't get the whole steering feel argument on such a large luxury car.......

I agree... Sometimes I think people compare the F90 to the E39 forgetting that the E39 was basically size wise what is now the F80. I'm all for good steering feel but to be honest in an M5 I wouldn't take steering feel improvements to the detriment of comfort and refinement.

I actually like the ride quality of my M4 Comp over my 'regular' M4. And I routinely make nonstop gas tank 300+ mile/bladder runs wishing to make it longer between stops. Obviously the ride isn't beating me up. |

I could have bought either the standard M5 or the M5 Comp and I went with the standard M5. I wanted slightly better ride compliance in a fast car. The difference in price had little to no factor. My wife is going to use the car from time to time and it was an easier sell.

That first one almost looks like the car went into "limp mode" The video in the middle, I have never seen anything like it. It would piss me off too. Let us know how it ends and I hope there are others that provide more clarity.
