SportAuto F90 M5 Supertest
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Nonetheless, the new M5 is one heck of a performer on track for a four door sedan. |

- the ring run was done in DSC off 4WD, this was recommended by BMW's M5 developers. In BMW's own testing 4WD DSC off is 7 seconds faster than 2WD mode. - 4WD mode gives the M5 better pull out of tight ring turns hence the faster time. - this particular F90 M5 was weighted at 1904 kg, the F10 M5 CP SA had previously tested was 1895 kg. AWD system added about 60 kg to the F90, but BMW was able to reduce the weight in steering system (5.5 kg), exhaust system (3.5 kg), and engine (2.5 kg), this of course on top of the lighter new chassis. - this car was dynoed at 671PS. SA encourages owners or future owners to dyno their cars and see if it is as potent as this one. Worry about press tune perhaps? - for damper settings sport mode was used on the ring. sport plus is far too stiff on the ring and the car jumps too much, it should only be used on smooth race track. - while the ZF box doesn't shift as crisp as DCT, but there really isn't anything to complain about. - the biggest improvement is in the braking and ABS area, this was the weakness of the F10 M5, that the ABS actions were strange at the limit, the brake pedal would all of sudden became stiff, discourages drivers from wanting to late brake. BMW supposedly solved it by using a new wheel sensor. - SA liked the P-Zero tire developed for BMW, the grip level is very high and felt like cup tires. |
