What will market bear for new M5 CS?
I received a call yesterday (7/15/22) from my BMW new car client advisor and he has a customer that may back out of his M5 CS order that will be delivered to the dealership on Monday. If the customer backs out of deal, I may be able to purchase at or near MSRP, which is $144K for a Brands Hatch grey metallic / Black. I'm looking at this opportunity as a short-term investment to resell and take any profit to help fund my next purchase, which will likely will be an e28 M5 or e30 M3. I currently own an e46 M3 Coupe Laguna Seca Blue/Grey, e39 M5 Carbon Black / Silverstone, and e93 M3 Jerez Black / Silver (grey). I'm looking for advice on what you think the market will bear for a resell. Recent asking prices and selling prices are not very consistent. At this time, I'm thinking $175K.

What kind of profit will you make on it? After taxes, title, registration, etc. OTD is probably $165-170? Potential to profit $5-10k? Keep in mind, market is turning quickly. Very risky and not much meat on that bone. Just buy it and use it.

in order to have made any relavant money on CS (When i say relevant, i'm thinking 200K) you needed to have got one right when they hit the U.S
Right now, most if not all are listed around 160-180. Mclaren Charlotte has a next to brand new one (as of last week i think), asking 199. Been sitting for awhille. So as previously stated, you buy it for 144, after taxes it's what, 160ish? Whats even the point? Too much work for 10k. Buy it and enjoy it, sell it next year for msrp... i personally think it should hold.. i dont believe it will fall off a cliff. But who the hell knows anything anymore. |

Yes, as others have said you missed the boat on this one. I think we are past the tipping point of getting these cars and flipping them for profit.

"Market" profit, sounds like being a pimp is more interesting than being a car guy, maybe pass on it and let the car go to someone who will love it

We are coming up on a full year since the M5 CS first hit the ground. I got mine last August.
As others have said, the time for flipping for a profit is not nearly as strong now. With the looming recession and higher interest rates, I'd be surprised if you broke even or made a couple grand. Not worth it unless you actually want to keep the car.

BMW Dealership in Kansas has one with 300 miles. Have it listed for 185k but may have a deal at 160k. I might even back off of it and try and find a used one for msrp which I think will be possible in the next 2 months. After taxes, license and reg. Really not worth it. If markup was paid, then definitely not worth it unless you plan on keeping it. If so, who cares how much you paid as long as it brings you enjoyment.

I agree the market is weakening .. 3 on bmwusa .. all less than 350 miles and prices range from $187k, $200k (says it is a custom color, which I was told you could not do at Pacific BMW) and $205k ... on cars.com .. additional 17 more that ranged from $144k to $222k .. at PCARMrk - 2 sold $195k 3.5 months ago and $176k a 6 weeks ago, BAT had 1 sell at $175k ... seems to me that the "going rate" right now is ~$177k for under 1k mileage .. lol, I'd sell mine for $176k w/850 miles (full PPF/ceramic coat) ...

I had my dealer go up the flagpole multiple times to try and get an Individual color on my CS. No luck whatsoever.

Seems that the second hand market on CS's is just stupid. Just one example that I stumbled across the other day.

All of the ones on Cargurus (22) have been there between 90-180 days from $167-199k. Albeit, most of them used with low miles (<10,000 miles), but they don't appear to be selling very quickly.
