Just out of simple curiosity I checked the KBB value of my car and was somewhat shocked at the low trade in value of $81k. Granted KBB did not ask if it was competition or had B&W or MPE.

I purchased used 10/22 with 6k miles for $102k and felt at the time it was a really good deal. Do you think that $81k is accurate or otherwise what would you think it’s worth? Not looking to get rid of it, but again just curious if I’m understanding the market now as I would have thought low $90s maybe.

There's a lot for sale in the 80-90k range, so yeah fairly accurate since you want to take 5-10k off selling price for dealer trade in (they gotta make a profit)

Yeah, I get that especially since the new 2025 M5 will weigh a lot more, be wider and longer.

If you want to see values go up again on the F90, probably will need to hold 10 years or so. Where our last ICE M5 will be wanted again. I am in it for the long run, as I love this car. No other new M5 will sound the way ours do!

actually this is a decent number if you look at it from historical perspective
Covid car market was an aberration and things are getting back to a normal pattern, some models faster than others
so a lot of people, like yourself, will be surprised how much trade in they will get at time of sale , in particular if they bought in the crazy Covid market
only thing helping is the significant inflation which will give a buffer as compared to normal times

I just got offered $82k on trade on my 21 M5C. MBB, Extended Aragon (not full), Executive, DAP, B+W, moonroof, 25k miles.

I'm seeing similar CPO cars through BMW being sold for $86k-ish, so it's probably not out of line.

A lot of lower priced buyers can DIY. There will always be buyers, whether of new or used cars, who are surprised at the cost of maintaining and repairing an out of warranty BMW, Mercedes, Audi, or Porsche. There are extended warranties for those who want to hedge their bets. I am a DIYer and respect the DIYers more than those with lots of money who know little about cars and don’t like to get their hands dirty.

I do not think those Neanderthals living under a rock exist anymore. Everyone now knows of the repair costs associated with the brand, much less M models. This is not a secret anymore.

This has been said of the German cars since before I could drive, and yet folks buy then used all the time and keep them for 20-plus years at times.
I owned a 10-year-old E55 and it was not any crazier than the caddy in our house. They broke at the same rate, the MB costs more to fix, but also never lost an engine (lost two engines in two separate high mileage caddies). So with the reliability of the newer Ms (like the F90), used versions should be quite desirable imho.

I'd wager M cars, especially German build cars and AMGs are pretty mechanically reliable, as there is more care and quality control vs your regular models. Even Lexus/Toyotas that are built in Japan have less issues than US or Mexico builds.

If a person actually does PROPER maintenance, which is a bit beyond your regular maintenance, including preventative maintenance, doesn't abuse the car and visually inspects the plasticky bits from time to time these cars will last.

Electrical gremlins are electrical gremlins, its just what to expect with the amount of tech in german cars. I don't consider that to be a sing of vehicle being unreliable. And realistic expectations, I think the 150K mile mark is a good expectation to reach, as you would expect a Toyota to go 300k.

PS. Plasticky bits are a scourge everywhere know, not just in our S63s, same exact issue of plastic components failing on Lexus forums.

I own both Lexus and Toyota with 4.6L V8 and 4.0L V6, both considered to be solid engines capable of doing 300k+, but thats only with vey meticulous maintenance, and willingness to spend extra money on extensive repairs. Toyota's love to leak oil from some failed gasket that's deep in the engine or transfer case, and some 300k+ speciments probably do seep oil somewhere and it cheaper to just top it off once a month. I don't see a reason why an M5 can reach 200k, if you're willing to spend some money on components expected to fail between 100-150k mark.

I agree here.. as it pertains to me I definitely want to get a warranty on my M5 when I get it as it will give me peace of mind. Not a DIYer but I can always try to DIY simple stuff. But big maintenance items I prefer to pay someone to do for me lol.

I also recently learned that BMW CPO warranty is crap in terms of the length of the warranty. It only adds an additional year to the factory warranties.

The dealer I sold my 2021 base M5 to has been sitting on it for 4 months and dropped the price from $88k to $73k. They bought it for 68k (I got $1000 over payoff).

And now that I look it has finally sold. I doubt they made much on it.

I been watching the F90 market a lot (and will continue to do so until the end of the year) seeing as I will be in the market soon. I have seen a lot of M5s that have been sitting for awhile and on top of that I have seen some F90 prices dip below $60k into mid 50s or so albeit they are 2018-2019 models but they're coming down.

Same here, since I sold my f10 m5 and x5m got an itch for F90, once new M5 comes out we will see another dip. I think best time to buy one will be early 2025…
