Stop Sale on BMW M5, M8, X5M and X6M Due to Transmission Wiring Harness Recal

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Just got a call from my dealer. I was planing on picking up my 2019 M5C this week but apparently there was a No Sale Recall issued today.

It is effecting all M5 models manufactured from Jan - November of 2019. There is an issues with the transmission wiring harness location. At this time there is no remedy!

Edit: this M8 owner also experienced the same: https://f92.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1677848

My dealer said it would be a couple weeks or longer.

Here is the information bulletin regarding the transmission wiring hardness recall and the models / production dates affected:

my car was built in august
did not receive any notice about a recall
since the vw debacle, it seems that authorities have been tightening the screws on all imports and no sale recall have become a common theme

oh hell no---- thanks I will not be doing my camera recall then. Its only an issue if contrast and brightness are all adjusted out of whack anyways.

They are probably giving you bs excuse, so you wait for the car longer.
Is their a TSB report on this ?

Why would the dealer want him to wait longer? They want the sale and the car gone especially with the end of the year quickly approaching. They are paying floor plan everyday the car sits there

I called another dealer to confirm the recall. It's legit and trust me they want me to take delivery ASAP!

Is this on both 2019 and 2020 model years? Mine just left the factory for transport

Not sure. I would call your dealer and find out. Unfortunately, this might be one of the recalls that make the car sit at port until fixed. But that's worst-case scenario.

Model year 2020, September 2019 build. Took delivery November 1. I was in for something else and they mentioned there was a recall they needed to look into. Later in the day when I picked it up, they told me it was for a transmission wiring harness, but they wouldn't have a fix until February and gave me back my key.

Spoke with my dealer today. Mine just finished production and is in transit. He said there were no flags indicating no sale at this time, which would be attached to the vin. Perhaps they solved the problem or maybe mine just hasn't been flagged yet

Take note; they may treat cars that have already been sold and delivered differently than cars that haven't been sold yet as far as priority and timeline. Also, this happened to me last Friday. Your dealer said the No Sale Recall was issued today. Anyway, I just threw my experience out there to add another data point, however I wasn't really concerned with it much, so I didn't ask any more questions. So... good luck.

Yeah, this happened to my car( June 2019 production) and was stranded in the underground parking lot of a shopping mall. Very difficult to tow it out, as transmission couldnt be shifted to neutral.

Eventually reached the dealership on a flat bed, and the short story was that transmission wires got exposed somehow and short-circuited, rendering the transmission unusable.
They fixed it though in a couple of hours and could get my car back next day

Just talked to my dealer. Apparently an easy fix, all they need to do is to tighten a cable to a different location... that's it... would be nice if someone could confirm this information from my dealer.

But if the cables were allright all they needed to do is place them somewhere that there would be no harm.

Does the recall improve the back up camera at night?

They said they needed to reinsulate them as they got exposed. It was an easy fix indeed, but my experience being stranded and flat bed was not easy

I heard about this recall today as well. BMWFS blocked my assumption on my M5 to a potential new lessee.
BMWNA said February as a timeline for a fix, the delay is due to the part they need is not available at the moment. Confirmed as well to be trans harness related.

I'm waiting to pick up my M5 which is sitting at the dealer. My salesman just told me that BMW will have an answer as to the fix and timing within the next 48 hours.
