Heated Seat Issues...

2014 35d.

Its starting to get cold up here in the north east, so we figured we would try out the heated seats for the first time since purchasing our X5 3 months ago.

The drivers seat back does NOT get hot. Doesn't even get warm. Seat bottom gets hot like it should, and so does the bottom and back of the passenger seat.

We have the STANDARD seats, and there is no option for adjusting the seat heating from back to bottom in the iDrive like the Contour seats seem to have.

Out of warranty, naturally. Looking to get it fixed, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something before taking it to be repaired.

Thanks!

Any chance previous owner played with a coding? You can change heat distribution via coding.

Otherwise - check connections under the seat. If no luck - heating element is a separate part on the F15 and not crazy expensive.

I was messing with coding. And saw temperatures for the seats. And left them alone. They were there though. And I don’t believe anyone did any coding before I have.

I guess I’ll have to call the dealer and see how many thousands it’ll take to fix.

I don't know about the labour, but the part itself is $131 at getbmwparts.

From what I remember the heating element is glued to the foam. May need new foam.

On the older models it was glued to the upholstery. For F15 it gives a heating element as a separate part... So hope it is separate!

Usually them being glued to the foam isn't a big deal...

I need to check the connections FIRST. Whoever had the X5 before us was a slob, and its possible they broke a connection, or unplugged it somehow.

I've pulled the lower seat covers off myself before on a f15. Heating element wasn't coming off. It was glued to foam. Perhaps look under the seat where the wire comes out from the back part of seat and goes underneath. See if wire connector didn't get kicked off or something.

Ya shame you didn't check everything before you bought it. I would go back to place where you purchased. You haven't had it that long.

I’ve checked all the plugs. And continuity on the rear pad and came up with. It’s broken lol

They will laugh at me and say “it’s a used vehicle”

All dealers around here are like that

I’ll delve into it more when I have time to. If I have to get foam. Then whatever

You do continuity only or did you measure resistance in ohms?

Continuity only. I had nothing. I tested the lower, and got continuity. Lower works.

Isn't there a setting somewhere in the iDrive that lets you control which part (seat or back) gets hot?

No, that only is for the contour seating, or whatever it is.
