So I have been going round in round with my idiot dealer as they did pressure test it and found no leaks but I asked what about the cap. They said it’s designed to vent and therefore residue from the coolant, seems more then it should be so they did give me a replacement after I asked a few times.
Seems the same part number etc but maybe it might be a fix - symbols on the top of the cap is different. The one on the right is new, the left is old. |

Pretty sure the dealer is full of it. The cap is supposed to vent in a overpressure situation. That shouldn't be the case unless your car is overheating. What they really mean is "we don't have the adapter to pressure test the cap so we are going to blow smoke so you will go away".
When I took over my brothers 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 (V8) I had a problem in hot weather there the temperature would fluctuate up to 3/4 then back to normal. Replaced the cap which had dried out and problem solved. Until a week later when the radiator failed since it finally had to hold some pressure after who knows how long. In the end I got that car to 170k miles. It had the limp feature so you could drive on 4 cylinders with no coolant. I used that ability 3 times. |
