M5 competition vs M5

So I'm about to lease an M5 competition but I'm starting to second guess that. I've been read up on the differences between the comp and non com and if it's worth it. Most the articles I read said it's not worth the 7,000. That if you plan on road coursing the car to put the 7,000 toward ceramic breaks. honestly I'll be at the drag strip if I do amy racing. The reason why I'm asking is because I do want to waste 7 grand. In all honesty I probably don't even know the diffrents. But wanted some feed back.

Thank you

Only you can decide, but the additions put on later, if you could, would cost much more than the difference in RRP.

It's got more bhp, it's got a different suspension set up, ride height, engine mountings. It has gloss black bits, which every non-comp buyer swaps out to get.

It's got different wheels, a fancy badge and it is the top of the range.

I bought a standard car because I negotiated a massive discount, which wasn't available for the Competition, but if it had, I would have bought it.

I drove both, I use my car for the daily school runs etc and found the non comp so much more comfortable. I also have a RC on mine, so the HP difference meant nothing.

Agree. The difference around town for non-track guys is significantly better with the base springs.

Exactly! It doesn't matter what one you buy, they are both great.

I would go with the competition rather than spending on ceramic brakes

Got the base mainly for the aesthetics. Just like it better. Lease through my business so cost was not a concern. No complaints. I also got a moonroof and didn’t see getting a comp with one.

If I were to get another one, I'd probably opt for the Competition. Says the owner with the Base M5

I don’t have the data to back it up but if your keen on drag racing then logically the ceramics are gonna do more to better your quarter mile time (significantly less rotational mass) than the minor HP bump - the comp is a nice stock tight package though. I ended up voting for the base with my own money for what it’s worth.

There are tons of posts on this and tons of opinions--way more than I can link here. Do a bit of googling and see what matches your outlook--the data's out there... far more than you'll get here in yet another thread.

Tuned at the dragstrip--there's nothing in them. On a road course, that's a different story.

There are far too many folks asserting that $7K went solely into 17hp--it didn't... but many won't use the differences so the M5 base is the best option for loads of folks.

I opted for the base. Didn't care for the ride height of either, so swapping springs was inevitable for either model. Exhaust was getting changed too for either model. I wanted the all black wheels anyways. It just didn't make sense to opt for the M5C for the mods I planned on making.

Just do what makes best sense for your situation.

I have been checking different websites and it seems in real world testing M5 is recorded to be faster 0-60 than M5 competition. Is this correct?

Haha I wanted snapper rock blue. But unfortunately I would of had to order the car because the brown interior was a must. White with brown. The only thing I didnt get was that I wanted was the Bowers and Wilkins. I could of got the same spec wit but the lease was 1350 a month with 5000 down and I would of had to pay 800 to ship from CA to NJ. The one got was 120,000 MSRP witch is 2000 more then the other car. No shipping fee 1,231 a month with 3300 down. So it was a no brainer. All good in 3 years when I'm done with this I'll order exactly what I want 2 months before the lease is over.

1/4 miles are close in testing but I would bet on the Comp if it was my money.

I was able to negotiate a great deal on a new 2019 M5 (non comp) January 2020. The ride is harsh enough that I can only imagine what a competition would feel like around Atlanta roads. 🤷*♂️
