Wonder if M8 exhaust tips would fit on the M5?

I think the larger M8 tips would fill the bumper real nicely....wonder if it would work?

I tried to help you out, but parts catalog says, not available separately.

Yeah I checked some of the OEM BMW parts sites and it doesn't seem they have many parts available for the M8, yet.....

I want to get to one and see how the tips are held on....whether they have that same centering pin sticking up like the M5 does.

While I am happy to look, how can we determine the fit without a side by side? I'll try and take a video or something.

I think the first issue might be how the tips attach to the pipes on the M8. They obviously just slide on the M5 and are centered on by that little pin that sticks out. Is that how they are held to the M8 pipes too? Or are they possibly welded on (which would make it hard to fit to the M5 then).

OK, we have an answer—it's a "never gonna work, guv'na". The M8 exhaust tips can physically swallow the M5 tips.

The tabs on the inside of the M5 tips are what makes them fit.....no one is doubting the M8 tips are bigger....however, it matters if the M8 tips are held on the same and whether they have tabs inside to make them fit smaller pipes and how big those tabs are.

Obviously, if the M8 tips are welded to the pipes...it's not even worth it.

If you guys can find a way to 'glue' it together, have at it. 👍 The size of the tips on both ends are quite different, though, so it's no plug'n'play as far as I can tell.

I just stopped by a local dealer tonight to peek. The M8 tips are welded on. That explains why they aren't available for buying separately. Damn. That really is a perfect size.

I re-read this thread this evening now that I'm back at home and realized I'd missed your point--too hasty on my part. Apologies.

The underlying exhaust is identical to the M5--my friend that handles all of my car mods for me happens to have an F90 Comp exhaust propped up against a wall in his shop as well as the tips you saw in the pics I posted... so given that, I see now why you'd think they might fit.

Having now taken a proper look at how they're attached--there's nothing resembling a lock pin. All I see is the visible signs of welding you mentioned earlier. I grabbed the exhaust tip and tried to wiggle it, too--there's no play in there whatsoever... but I suspect that's what you'd already concluded.

Yeah, no worries. Sounds like it would be a major project.....and with the M8 ones being welded on, there obviously isn't going to be those little tabs on the inner part of the M8 tips that may have normally allowed it to fit on a smaller muffler diameter. Oh well

How is the exhaust sound on the M8 compared to the M5 with those bigger pipes?
