Thieves suck!

So this weekend I switched from my summer wheel set to my winter wheel set. After mounting the winter wheels I went to transfer over the center caps and valve caps, only to find some POS tried to pry out the center caps at some point. Every cap has three or four nicks/gouges around the edge. EVERY CAP ... they couldn't pop the first one out so they had to try every cap!!

OK, rant over. This $hit just drives me bonkers.

Have you had your wheels serviced such as tire replacements, wheels balanced, etc? That may have been where the caps were removed and damaged.

Nope, it's the original tires that came on the car. I move the caps back and forth between summer and winter sets every six months and they we in perfect condition when I put the summer set on back in the spring.

While I don't disagree with the sentiment in your title... that looks like normal corrosion from exposure to Sodium Chloride (NaCl) aka road salt.

I don't think that's the cause. They were not damaged when I moved them from my winter wheel set to the summer wheel set in the spring. I also hand wash them before installing so they went onto the summer wheel set clean with no salt residue.

Also, the plastic edges at most of the chips are scarred. It really looks like "mechanical" damage from someone trying to pry the caps off with a small screwdriver.

Exactly this is how all of my sixteen OEM wheel caps started to look like after a few years. Little bubbles that form on the silver part of the cap.

These thieves should have read my damn thread on removing center caps. They would have been well suited with duct tape. Lazy MFrs.

Yep looks like standard corrosion to me. Unless every single wheel I’ve ever had has had random folks try to steal my centre caps in the dead of night.

Not sure a thief would risk getting caught trying to steal center caps.. im with the others saying corrosion or a crackhead looking for a quick fix 😂
