S5 Evo, OEM Audi S5 with 420hp

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/25/r...eek-at-s5-evo/

It would be nice to see Audi produce this. Actually, it would be nice to see this just become the S5 but I don't think that's too likely unfortunately. AB describes the engine as a tuned S5 engine, but its basically the motor from the RS4 probably.

What do you think? It could be just a mule to demonstrate the new gearbox in the S5 chassis, but I hope they continue to use the 420hp V8 somewhere besides the R8, and this is as good a place as any.

bump. no one cares I guess?

This would remove one big disadvantage when comparing S5 vs. M3, and that is that its just underpowered. People seem to like the S5 styling, so with 420hp I would think this car would be very popular among enthusiasts.

Sweetness... however the S5 is overpriced, IMO. This would really not be worth it.

Agreed, and I'm passionate about the Audi S-cars. If money were no object, I'd most certainly buy one, but from a performance/cost perspective, there are better substitutes for not much more money. (IS-F, M3, and CTS-V to name a few).

This is what they SHOULD have done .. the S5 should be priced somewhere between $45,000-$50,000, to challenge the 335i. The RS5, should be priced about $10,000 higher, to compete with the likes of the M3/IS-F, etc.

The S5 Evo, could be priced where a loaded S5 would be at in the above scenario (between $50K-55K). In an ideal world, the S5 Evo would focus on cutting out weight, and suspension tuning that would be firmer than the S5's, but not as stiff as the RS5's.

Just consider, the Infiniti G37, which is only down about 20 horsepower, can be had for about $10,000 less. Even with its gorgeous styling and benchmark interior, the price difference is too large to ignore.
