How to store settings in key
2011 Z4 SDrive 35i .. came with 2 keys. I noticed the keys have different settings - seat positions etc. How can I store new settings in the keys ? Manual didn't help.

Car will remember the settings you had with the key that was used to open driver door and drive the car. They aren't actually stored in the key -- the just knows that key 1 had setting x and key 2 had setting y.

It remembers more than just seat settings. Radio presets, outside mirror position, and I think the preset buttons labeled 1 - 6.

Does it remember all this if you have the comfort access option and don't insert the key in the dash?
I just bought a CPO and the dealer, the dealer didn't mention this and I was unaware |

The only time it may get confused is if both keys are in the car or the passenger with their own key unlocks their door first. In my case, when both my wife & I are on a road trip, each with their own key, and driving some. The car will typically use the settings of the key that unlocked the car, ie if I am driving, I am the one to touch the door handle first to unlock the car and it will use my settings. It seems to be able to detect fairly accurately though which key is the driver's key ... sometimes I'll touch (unlock) the passenger door first, but the car already seems to sense my wife's key and not change back to my settings. It works much better than on some of the other cars we have had. |
