No way in hell the best handling is the M5 F10. Stock for Stock, the M5 F10 was rubbish. Suspension was far too wallowy and the car would break traction all the time. It pains me to say this, but I have owned a F10, a F06, a W212 AMG and a C218 AMG, and the CLS C218 was better than the F10 at handling. The stock 2013 F10 M5 was a joke. I will concede there is a massive leap in the Competition package, but it stills has traction issues, far too much weight, etc. M6 GC was far better, and the M5 F90 is hands down a lot superior. The M XDrive is extremely clever to the point, you can enter corners like a frothing lunatic, with your throttle hard pressed and the system uses the traction to get out on the other side. It has a far more rigid and playful chassis compared to the F10. |

One of the big reasons that I went for the F90 is because I think they finally took some queues from the E39 and made the design look a bit more classic again. The last two M5s were abortions IMO. The F90 is a modern interpretation of the E39 if you ask me, with a little all weather performance thrown in for good measure.

I'm obviously biased but the E60 was an absolute POS other than the engine.
Generally not a fan of any Bangle era'd BMWs but the E60 is the one that I will never be a fan of. I think the E39 ticked all the right boxes for an M5 hence why it's held with such regard these days. |

Had a 6spd E60, liked it alot. Like my F10 a lot more. Really wish I could have a pristine E34. I love its classic look, more than the E39. The E39 front end looks really dated to me. Auto transmission kills the F90 for me. And that God awful shifter... Uggh what were they thinking? Smh

To me, BMW moving away from DCT for their ///M cars is a huge disappointment. The clutch packs inside a planetary auto are simply not stout enough to handle an all out WOT powershift. You can see the heads of the two gentlemen bob forward as the ZF8 upshifts (at 14:55 in the video), which means there is an interruption in acceleration as the ECU cuts back engine power during the upshift. On a DCT, there's actually a surge in acceleration during the upshift as the transmission recuperates the inertia of the engine RPM drop. Further, a planetary auto has much more rotating inertia than a DCT, which makes for a more sluggish drivetrain. But I guess it does not matter as much on a big heavy AWD car. While planetary automatics have significantly closed the gap with DCT in terms of performance, they are still not on par. This is why top level sport/super/hyper cars use DCT. For me, the DCT was an important differentiator that BMW had versus the competition. This advantage is now gone .

E39 was the best car I have ever owned and I have had quite the selection.
My E39 was Stage 3 Dinan (everything Dinan) Wheels, brakes, interior, super charger, rear end, flywheel, intake, suspension, motor internals, headers, exhaust, clutch, and so on. I beat the shit out of that thing for 30k miles and never even a hiccup. And to top it off it sounded like a Nascar. I regret selling it! It's like that one girl you always wish you would have stayed with but you moved on. You may love your current one but you'll always wonder about the old one.. lol Yea, I'm crying a little bit inside right now

I have seen this video many times and the F90 M5 is still the best looking to me.
