Great video, thanks for sharing! The M550i's definitely the better car for people seeking comfort (and a smaller budget), while the M5 is a great performance car in its class.

This is my preferred spec for the M550i in Germany. I think there are some exclusive options like the adaptive suspension professional for 4K€ or the parking heater witch also isn't available for the M5, that could get the M550i closer to the M5. The M5C I ordered is at 140500, so still nearly a 20k gap.

I did not cross shopped them, I wanted the full fat M5 Competition no less, but just out of pure curiosity, trying to figure out who would choose the M550i instead of the M5 when the price gap is so small

I have a 2021 M550i on order. Out of respect for the M guys...I'm taking my M badges.
M5 was a hair out of my budget (by a couple hundred a month), a puppy and hopefully a kid on the way soon. I felt the M5 was a bit too much. My thoughts is lease the 550 for 3 years. If I like the platform, find a 2021 LCI M5 right off lease and buy it outright.

What color combo did you go with, and did you option DHP? I had it on my F3x cars, and really liked it. Seems it's well liked by 550 owners who got it too. Doesn't work so well if you plan to go aftermarket suspension though. Cheers!

Im currently in the market. I drove both. One car is the best 5 series ever at 43k used CPO. The other car is the best M5 ever at 69k used with warranty. It's very confusing. Yet I feel the F90 is worth the extra 26k. Very bizarre. Both wonderful machines. Going to be a tough decision
