replace factory strut or kw v4

In a previous thread I posted that I took my car in for a 6k oil change.
The dealer informed me the front strut is leaking.
They denied the warranty b/c the the car was lowered. I lowered the car with h&r m550i springs.
A few options:
-Dealer can replace the strut for 2300, 2 year warranty.
-The shop who installed the springs can replace for 1800, no warranty. They are suggesting to replace with coilover/strut as factory struts will not hold and leak again.
-Replace with kw v4 for 6500-7000
There does not appear to be an aftermarket strut option. I checked Bilstein but no love.
Any suggestions?

Wow V4 is quite pricy, not sure of its advantage over the V3 other than the additional highspeed compression adjustment. Maybe MCS can make dampers for you along with providing the right spring rate for your needs.

That's tough man. Sorry to hear. Why not just buy online and install yourself. Save a bunch of cash.

Edit: found a couple on eBay for $600

Replace the factory strut .. you should be fine with aftermarket springs and OEM struts.

I've run aftermarket springs on several M5's including my current F90 M5C w/ zero issues.

My 2 cents....I replacedthe stock set up in my '03 RS6, after they replaced the factory system twice, with the KW V3 setup. I did it myself and it was rock stable for another 75,000 miles or so. Excellent quality parts. At that time the price was $2800, plus the two new roll bars, and a few special tools. It was worth it.

I had the same issue with my front passenger strut after 6k. Dealer denied warranty bc of the springs. I ended up finding a used one on forum from a member. I would search there and eBay.
