Carbon Ceramic Brakes in Rain?

Any truth to lack of brake performance when driving in heavy rain?

I've had mine for 2.5 years and 21k miles with no issues in the rain. I do recommend periodically braking very hard, as in a panic stop or two on an empty road, just to keep them biting as hard as possible. I've noticed that after several months of only light braking, they're initially not as responsive when you brake hard. If I keep them well bedded, they've worked flawlessly regardless of weather.

About 80% less than standard brakes is what it seems like to me. But, all my cars with CCB's have black wheels

I don’t track my car, nor do I intend to. I use it as my daily driver, with some spirited driving whenever possible; nonetheless I regret not getting the CCB option.

No lack of break performance in the wet and no break dust.

Excuses about ceramic brakes only come from the people who cannot afford them

Under very heavy rain, you do have to hit the brakes often to keep them at the right temperature. I think that they work a lot better than the ones in my old M4. As far as brake dust, pretty much there is none. Whatever little there is, it comes right off.

Lack of initial bite in rain (especially when cold) with CCB is common and exists across all brands. They will eventually stop, but require significantly more pressure and there may be a slight delay.

If you contact BMW they will tell you it's completely normal and advise exactly that - periodically applying brakes to remove moisture and get some heat in the brakes.

There's a lot going on here. I've never treated them any differently than iron brakes and responsiveness has been predictably more sensitive. No difference between dry, wet, or cold conditions. They bite much harder than steel even when cold or wet, and make no dust. Anything else you'd like to know?

Actually in the video, which was quite interesting, they say that CCB's when wet have stopping power similar to regular non CCB brakes and more pressure may be required to get the CCB stopping power you are used to. I am not aware of anyone claiming stopping power of CCB is inferior to regular brakes in any circumstance. I have been driving my F10 with CCBs for 7 years and they are phenomenal; no dust, no noise, always reliable and function great in any type of weather. I read all sorts of concerns with shattering, hitting rocks, squeaking, poor wet performance and what not back when they were first offered. I have found none of those things to be true. I ordered CCBs on my new F90, and will get them on any car I can in the future. Do you need them?? NO. The regular brakes work just fine. I have to admit that the lack of any brake dust whatsoever is my favorite thing about them! And they look cool. And when I drove on the autobahn in Germany hard stops in this heavy of a sedan from high triple digit speeds it was nice to have no fade. But in USA probably functional advantage only useful on track.

Not at all. At most, a bit of road dust but nothing a damp cloth can't clean off. The days of dusty wheels are done with the CCB...

Funny to come across this question today. Yesterday I took the 19 m5c with CCB through a touchless car wash. When pulling out afterwards I had to accelerate pretty hard and then came to a pretty quick stop at a red light.

The brakes scared the shit out of me: I had to push much harder than normal. The car stopped but clearly the wash had a large effect. After I pumped the brakes a couple times they completely returned to normal.

Car has 4K miles and haven’t had any issues in the rain. Just the once from the car wash.

This is normal.

Nothing to worry about, just be careful when driving just after a carwash.

I did experience this on heavy rain on the high way.
The brakes were not solicited at all, and when I pushed the pedal I got scared like crazy.

No dust. No issues.
They do bite a little harder than steel making modulation something to get used to, but doesnt take long.

never hadd any issues with CCB in the rain in two vastly different vehicles, including the f90 and C7z06.

I think this is being over analyzed. OP, get the ceramics.
