Just because Chris Harris is throwing it around the corners in RWD mode does not make it a "track" car. The m5 will never be that. It's highway monster, nothing more, nothing less. This seems to get lost on this forum...
Nope, not misguided. Just making a point. It has carbon bucket seats that are more than likely uncomfortable if they are even remotely like the current M4 carbon bucket seats. I would never insert myself into a seat like that unless it was for the track. I don’t think the M5 CS would make a good track car, just like my M5 Competition wouldn’t.

For being a highway monster, it has “poser” track seats as a silly, albeit decent weight reduction gimmick. The Nurburgring imprint on the headrest honestly makes me chuckle.

im gonna pretty much agree with you but i wish our normal comp seats were like they are but with rear buckets. those things look cool.

and chris harris never called it a track monster.

he said "it is so good at being a YOBO" - a cruel and brutal fellow.. a bully

and that is the best description ever i think

Well, I guess it's a good thing that you aren't getting one. Honestly, I like the fact that the M5CS doesn't appeal to everyone. Although, I have noticed that the majority of people who hate on it are current M5 owners.

Yeah, no worries man. I’m glad there are people who like the car. Different strokes for different folks. It’s a cool piece of engineering, just not my cup of tea nor what I would personally find attractive or appealing.

I agree with others. CS is a monster and will be probably the most fun you can have in a big 4 door these days which ultimately probably makes it the one to buy.

BUT... the presence of that Audi... and the presence of the Taycan Turbos (which I see 5-10 of a day here in LA) REALLY makes me want for more out of the looks of the BMW. I didn't love the Taycan at first but it is aging very well already to my eye. They look incredible on the road. That Audi is stunning and FINALLY somebody put buttons in an interior vs all screen. I despise having to use menus or a touch screen for basic functions so to me Audi just produced the best EV interior on the market.

I enjoy reading the forum and do more reading then posting. I am getting ready to make the last payment on my 18 M5 (purchased instead of a lease). My wife of 34+ years knows me well and asked what vehicle are you looking at now. I am already on a list for the up coming C8 Z06. I have owned more Corvettes over the past 31 years then any other vehicle. I still miss my 2012 Z06/Z07.

In my opinion which does not count for much except to me, I find myself scratching my head with the M5CS being an F90 M5 owner since August of 2018. I can see the only reason to go with the M5CS is for the looks of the vehicle on the outside and inside. I enjoy watching Chris Harris driving review but it does not say much and I am looking forward to seeing how it does against the M5C. Having the disposable income but on the some what frugal side I have contemplated buying the M5CS and storing it and maybe in 20 years sell it if I am still alive and possibly make a profit. I know these cars are made to be driven and enjoyed and I will not fault anyone that purchases one (M5CS). If you like the M5CS buy it and don't worry what others think. However I am typing this post. I am curious though, are most people that are considering buying the M5CS are you doing so for the exclusivity of owning the M5CS, if so that is fine. Looks are subjective and I am not a fan of the current color choices or the gold wheels, if there where other color options, wheel colors, and the addition of the B&W stereo I may have entertained the idea of the purchasing one.

Lets face it, one can only drive so fast on the street and the current M5 and M5CS are very heavy automobiles. Yes you can take it to the track as with any vehicle. Example, I am a Driving Instructor(EVOC) at my work (LEO). I drive the Ford Police SUV around the track during the pursuit training portion of our mandated training. I have our sworn officers chase me to simulate pursuit driving and yes I am having fun and getting paid while driving fast on the track.

I tip my hat to BMW for designing the M5CS and announcing they will only make the M5CS in limited numbers, brilliant marketing strategy. In my opinion this will make people want it more.

The BMW that may replace my 18 M5 is the 22 BMW Alpina B8.

Those that are buying the M5CS enjoy the ride.

I do not hate the M5CS but I think that many current M5 owners are asking themselves the following: can I live with the color options to include the wheel colors, the comfort level of the sport bucket seats and the price of admission and the dealer mark up.

I know for me when I purchased my 18 M5 in August of 2018 the discount played a big part. My M5 had a MSPR of 124k and I purchase it for $111k. I was going to go with a new 911S coupe at a MSRP of 148k with a discount of 7% (137k). My wife and I enjoyed the ride quality of the M5 over the 911S for everyday driving. With that being said the starting price of 144k for the M5CS there are many options in that price range. I like the looks of the M5 / M5CS but it is still a sedan and lets just say again it is still a sedan. Not boring but not exotic looking like a C8 Corvette starting at 60k if you can find one without a markup.

Personally, I like that the M5 is understated on exterior design.
If you need it to stand out more, you can get it in Frozen Deep Green. Personally, i'll have mine in Brands Hatch Metallic.

My biggest problem with the looks is the decision to use gold on the grills, rather than other areas. Limits the color choice pretty significantly, and then they only did a single non-frozen color. Would have liked more color choices on the CS, cause its clearly a superior car to the M5C.
I 100% agree with you on the color. I don't like frozen colors at all so I also went with BHG metallic.

I would have really liked that green in a metallic paint too. My dealer went up the flagpole multiple times for individual paint and was denied each time.
Why are bmw refusing to paint a car in an individual colour?
You are paying the money, it takes the same time to paint as any other individual colour surely?

When I asked, the VIP Ordering Specialist at BMWNA said that special paints were not available because of the "hang off parts".

No one seems to know what "hang off parts" are, but they are the reason it is denied.

Mmm intriguing....

Hang off parts
Do they mean things like plastic bumpers , motors , that sort of thing?
I thought they are sprayed at the same time (separately)

Maybe it's the parts unique to the car like the bumper.

The E-Tron looks gorgeous but for me it's still pointless due to range and time to charge. I do a lot of miles and stay in a lot of hotels and in the UK, the infrastructure is still not there.

I am awaiting a M5 Comp and I currently have a E63S.

I could have picked the E-Tron, Tesla, Taycan but personally, I felt that this was the last time I could have a true M5 and I would regret not having one before the electric brigade take over.

At some point we won't have these cars and it will be a great shame. It may not look quite as flashy as the E-Tron, but as an overall package, I would still take the M5!

I am in the exact situation.
Before covid, I could be anywhere in the UK (or Europe) on a weekly basis for 6 months plus at a time. Some locations are not convenient via train.
The only electric option would have been a Tesla model s due to their charging network and range. I don't like the looks of the model 3 inside or out.
I sometimes stay outside of city centres in nice b&b and have not come across a single one with any charging capabilities.
So I bought an M5COMP in 2019. I can get 450 miles out a tank on a long trip.
There's plenty of time to go electric in the future, if I must. So I'm enjoying the Last ice v8 M5 now!
