Recall: CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20E-A04

Received a recall notice in the mail yesterday. See the attached for details.

CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20E-A04
"Description of Issue"
"During a recent quality analysis, it was determined that a data error in the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) software could result in an inability to illuminate the check engine light. This could result in the check engine light not being illuminated when an emission increasing malfunction is present. To correct this error, BMW is conducting a Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign."

What year is your car? Wondering which years are affected.

I recently received this recall notification for my 2019 M5C but it certainly doesn't sound "voluntary" to me. Failure to have the recall performed could void parts of your emission's warranty and in California may prevent you from registering the vehicle.

Just a note that after the service for this recall a number of components (not all) got software updates. As expected it wiped many of my mods but not I big deal since I just put them back. I do not have an engine DME or TCU mod, so not sure it would impact that too.

Thanks. Finally made an appointment. Did it mess with anything (non mods) like exhaust sound like the other recall (Fuel vent?)?

I started getting a message on my idrive screen that the recall needs to be done. It comes on shortly after I start the car. How did BMWNA communicate with my car?

I got a message that I needed the fuel vent recall. Not this recall. And when I look it up on the website it says I don’t have the fuel vent recall but the dealership says the car is up for the fuel vent but not for this 20e recall which I got in the mail. Confusion sets in.

Interesting that I went for this recall but they did the B160420 recall (Tank Ventilation Diagnosis). I think that either of these recalls will solve the other one also since it requires reprogramming to the latest modules software version. I am not noticing much differences on the exhaust sound, if anything, it is a little louder with more burbles (but it could be placebo). My car is full stock besides having Bimmer Code mods and the Full Screen Car Play mod. Majority of these modes got overridden, a few were not. I just re-implemented the changes and everything is back they way it was before the reprogramming.

Thanks. Is that true? One recall covers the other? Dealer didn’t see this 20E recall either. Just the fuel vent.

I had the fuel vent recall done today. It does appear these recalls are hand in hand.
