On that note how many liters do f90 lci require per oils change? I would like to use good quality oil when I take in my car for breakin service.

They say we must use approved oil , but i have never ever seen a car dealer to send the oil to analysis . I have asked my dealership if they have an agreement with a chemical lab because i want to have analysis for my oil , and they haven't (and they haven't ever sent ) . Also , i don't think anyone of us would put a worse oil than the provided one . In fact , if that oil would be that good , we wouldn't have this thread .

One no oil is gonna cause your engine to fail. At least none anyone in here would buy. The oil changes on a yearly basis. Because fuel efficiency requirements change and so do contracts. Any high quality oil company will be just fine (Motul, redline, Castrol, liqui moly, etc.)

Just curious if any of you guys have upped the viscosity from 0W30 to 5W30 and discerned any noticeable difference from the engine? Since it's very warm here now I thought about going with a top quality 5w30...

This is a terribly complex question, and frankly not only manufacturer specific, but even individual ENGINE specific. What is best for one F-90 may not be best for all.

But, honestly, beating the BMW stock oil is awfully difficult. Anybody just use the dealer oil?

That's what I was planning to use was the twinpower 0w30... I just know that they used to recommend 5w30 was curious if there was any noticeable difference but probably not since they are so very close.

It's actually FRIGHTENINGLY different 0w-30 to 5W-30 for many manufacturer's oils. It's not like the olden days. HTHS ratings, catalytic converter safety, etc. etc. etc. Basically, unless it meets the BMW ratings system, you're just guessing. You might guess right, but you might not. Ever since I spent YEARS finding the PERFECT oil for the GT-R under track day conditions, and discovered that basically after eons of research and oil analyses - I was just barely beating the recommended Mobil-1 0W-40 from the factory. I have followed OEM recommendations for oil ever since. You're perfectly safe getting the stock oil unless you've modified the engine a lot. It just is the engineers have done a good job from the factory.

I would use bmw oil if they didn't upcharge the effing hell out of it like everything else. Makes no sense. BMW branded coils for my N63TU were $50 more than the exact same ones from BOSCH that weren't sold through BMW...just dumb.

I used to live and die by Mobil 1 0w-40 on my amg. Now i use LiquiMoly 5w-30 and 0w-30 on both X5 and M5 (in between dealer changes).

I change my oil every 7,500 KM, So in between the dealer recommend intervals @ 15k.
And from my experience with this car and my previous BMW, both idle and run much smoother on redline.
Now that I am done with their service interval stuff I will only use this oil.

Any oil that meets the bmw spec for the engine is fine or an oil tgat is not rated like redline if you have verified it is a near match for the spec. More oils may work if you keep the change interval short. There is much more to oil spec than there used to be. Bobistheoilguy has a tremendous amount of information if you want to learn.
