All of this is true, but C&D did not need to use the "as tested" price for their scoring. It would have been much more reasonable to score the price factor based on the C&D suggested configuration which should build the contestants as similarly as possible.

For example, the custom paint and custom interior add huge amounts to the M5 price, but do not reflect the configuration the average buyer would choose nor is there anything similar on the Caddy. Similarly, the base audio system in the M5 is likely very similar to the system in the Caddy.

In short, C&D should have based their price comparison on an M5C with the exec package, standard paint, standard leather, CCBs and no other options thereby matching the configuration of the Caddy. In that configuration, the M5C stickers at $124K, or about $18.5K more than the Caddy. If C&D wanted to add just a bit more, then tack on the Driving Assistance Pro package for another $1,700 which adds some self driving features that Caddy does not offer.

In any case, other than the objective stuff, C&D definitely gives a skewed impression in this comparison.

I think it's pretty clear that C&D had an agenda, which was for the Cadillac to win and for BMW to finish last no matter what. Someone in the comment section noticed that they summed up the BMW scores wrongly. Comments are pretty funny. Someone suggested they gave the BMW the lowest score and then tried to reverse engineer it to add up to that lowest score - making a mistake during addition

12 points separate 3rd place from 1st place, and price accounts for only 4 of those points, the same 4 point margin by which BMW wins the powertrain.

It’s the chassis that Caddy wins by a large margin. Hard to beat magnetic ride shocks for a combination of handling and ride.

The only opinion that matters is yours, and Jeremy Clarkson. Lol.

Just buy what you like and enjoy it.

Can someone explain the "cargo space" rating discrepancy between the three?

Looks like an error.

Half of their entire comparison looks like an error. 🙄

I don't know the dimension comparisons amongst the cars… but between cargo space and "as tested price" the M5 lost 11 points. Lol ok.

The Audi has close to double the space and usability of the BMW and Cadillac because its a liftback.

Yes, but is it 5x bigger - beause that's what the score suggests.

It’s a joke of a ratings system. they probably come up with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd places in the beginning and work backwards to make sure it comes out right in the end. They probably couldn’t figure out how to make Audi come out ahead of bmw so they gave it a 5 in cargo.

Going off their randomness I would give the m5 a 19/20 for performance and the Audi a 12/20.

I truly hope no one actually chooses a car over another based off of something they make seem serious but actually for entertainment purposes only

Anyway my views on these 3 are that m5 is the fastest by far, and best overall in terms of performance, looks and luxury of the 3. Caddy the most fun being rwd, best chassis, and lower price point. I honestly see few reasons to choose the RS7 unless you just love the looks, are an audi person, or need that 5/5 rated cargo space

GM has some of the best chassis engineers out there, it shouldn't be a surprise that the CT5 Blackwing or that its previous CTS-V generations have been receiving universal praise.
BMW has a great chassis as well. I just wish the German's would start using the magneride dampers (Magnetorheological) more as they are superior to most other damper tech.
While developed by GM initially, the tech has long been sold and Cadillac is just a customer buying these for their cars.

Audi weighs close to an SUV. I passed on Audi and Panamerica due to weight. Mercedes tempted me, particularly the wagon (as did the Pana ST) but passed due to the “closer to SUV” weight. Even a few hundred lbs makes a difference you can feel. An M5 CS at 4050 lbs would be awesome. Mine is a heavy base model with fancy stereo and sunroof and executive package and regular 20” wheels and steel brakes. If I could do it over I would buy a stripper except for brakes and wheels.
