Service overdue: Engine oil, can be done at any auto place?

I've been driving the M5 since March, and now it's September. It says "Make an appointment with your service center".

I assume they're talking about an actual oil change (drain and replcae oil, including filter change), not just topping off oil?

If so, can this be done at any auto service center? I have a Shell station around the corner. One would assume they can do it as well as a BMW service center?

I am guessing since you have an LCI you still have the prepaid maintenance included. Therefore it should not cost you anything to take the car to BMW for the service.

Please get only gasoline at the Shell station, not an oil change.

This is, of course, not your break in service right?

Honestly, I wouldn't take it to some Shell station, but good independent shop can do it for halve of what BWM will charge you. I found a very dependable mechanic in Sacramento who first worked on my F10 M5 and then later fixed my 2008 Bentley.
