Foot controlled boot opening

Is it possible to disable the foot waving boot shut operation. My 8 yr old granddaughter was hit on the head by the large chromed catch when she was putting her schoolbag in the boot, ouch!!

I bet you could tape over the sensors- that would likely be easiest. Might also be able to pull a fuse or code it off, but I'm not sure if it's on its own fuse circuit (like the ASD is).
