One of our customers just got a bunch of carbon goodies and the M performance exhaust installed. Pretty cool how the exhaust comes with a dongle to trick the car to think it still has valves[IMG][/IMG]

I love my MPE. I also had no idea it has the dongle, but I knew it didn't have valves. The valves really aren't needed. The exhaust button still works, however, in that it can stop the cracks and pops on downshifting and letting off the throttle, if desired.

That is just a bypass plug so the ECU know that there is no more valve.
AFAIK, all MPE comes with it.

Those tailpipes look great. Is the muffler substantially smaller than the stock one?

MP carbon tips can be ordered from your dealer parts department or getbmwparts.com for $295 EACH TIP. BMW part number is 18-30-2-456-072. They’re only designed to fit the MP exhaust. However, another forum member here has been successful with having a shop modify the stock exhaust outlets in order to retrofit the MP carbon tips (as documented in this thread). I believe the issue is that stock exhaust outlets are larger in diameter than the MP exhaust outlets, and that the stock exhaust outlets have a locating pin that needs to be cut away to make it happen.

It would be so much easier, and probably considerably less expensive, if a decent-quality aftermarket tip designed for the stock exhaust system were out there. I've been on a long search...

Same! Spending $1200 for just tips is outrageous

Thanks for posting BenD. I'm loving the car and the MPE was much more impressive than I thought was possible. I'll see you at the 1,200 miles service soon.

Anybody know of any weight savings or power gain with the MP exhaust? Akro claims to have those benefits

I don't think there will be any performance benefit, it's all sound and aesthetics. To be honest, I doubt there's any performance benefit with the Akra either, but they feel they have to justify their price beyond sound, I suppose. Either exhaust will be an upgraded experience, but the Akra is definitely more expensive with less desirable looking tips IMHO.

The akra and (likely) the m performance exhausts are lighter, but you will realize ZERO performance improvements. You buy these for the visceral experience. It's a sound and visual mod, nothing more.

I thought with a bigger diameter and improved flow that the power gain could be a few % with turbo engines. Or am I wrong?

You're not wrong but 10-12 hp gain on a 600hp car is negligible.

Your improved flow and performance will come from aftermarket downpipes. The upper make the biggest difference. The amount of performance gain you’ll get out of an akra or m performance exhaust is akin to removing a few bags of groceries from the trunk.

10 to 12 more are 10 to 12 more... take everything you can

Pipe exiting muffler is smaller believe 73mm , just last 4 inches or so are widener to 76mm , this is a reason you can not fit those tips . If you extended 73mm to the end ( muffler shop comes to the play ) you are good. no horsepower gain but opening the end , just preventing you from interchanging those tips . Thank you BMW.
