Can the Carbon Pro Spoiler Be Added Later

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on an M5C. I'd like the carbon pro spoiler but I was told today at the dealer they didn't recommend adding after the fact. They were worried that taking off the original spoiler would remove the paint. Is this true? I can't imagine everyone on here that posts pics of the carbo pro spoiler ordered it from the factory?

The carbon pro spoiler is added on at the port. The port has to remove the original spoiler which is put on from the factory. So your dealer is incorrect in assuming the factory would put on the pro spoiler during the build.

No problem installing after the fact.

I remember someone posting about having that problem. Maybe rare but not unheard of?

My dealer had no problem installing mine. They use fishing line to remove old spoiler. No paint damage. Your dealer is a dumbass.

Not necessarily the case, My trunk has clearcoat damage from the original spoiler adhesive and is visible from certain angles and lighting conditions. I live with it because The overall look of the Pro spoiler outweighs the visible deformed clearcoat. My case is unusual and pisses me off. I bet the dealer had some or heard of similar experiences to mine.

Like you said, your experience is the exception not the norm. Was the install done at the dealer or elsewhere? Was the spoiler you removed factory or Port installed? That could be a factor as well if Betalink was utilized at the port; I could see betalink causing issues on removal but I'm fairly certain factory installed spoilers do not utilize betalink given their relatively small size.

In my case, the OEM spoiler I removed utilized 3M double sided adhesive; came off easy. Cleaning up the residue is not difficult but requires some patience and time but zero damage to the clearcoat.

Carbon pro spoiler is not as wide as the original factory spoiler so you will see some very slight color differences because the paint underneath were the spoiler was was not exposed to any elements. However it is very slight and I stopped paying attention to it after a couple of days. Also I have a frozen color in my car which is supposedly so much more fragile than regular paint but they removed my factory spoiler and replaced with carbon pro spoiler with zero issues or scratches. But remember if you get that carbon pro spoiler you will all have to (well not have to but it's recommended) buy the front spoilers as well and then have a slight CPU adjustment to program new aerodynamics of the car introduced by the addition of the front and rear carbon spoilers

Or smart since they're trying to gain more profit! OP is not guaranteed to purchase and have it installed at the dealer in the future. Which is sales 101. If you could sell it now, don't wait until later

I paid extra to get my dealer handle as part of my break in service. It was more convenient than saving bucks going to an independent shop (haven't had good experience w anyone here in Dallas).

Love the spoiler - so much better than the thin shallow OEM strip.

While I wouldn't say this was an easy self-install, I did mine myself. I believe my OEM spoiler was attached with the double sided tape because the adhesive residue came of with a lot of rubbing and minimal amounts of acetone. The paint underneath was pristine. Installing the new spoiler requires patience and attention to detail, but I figure I saved $300-400 doing it myself- my dealer wanted $890 for the part + 2 hours labor!!

Spot on. I got my spoiler at getbmwparts for $600. Installation was 2 hours of labor which came to $350. At least 200 more than independent shops but it was more convenient for me to handle as part of my break in service.

My dealer had the wrong spoiler installed at port. They swapped it for the M pro spoiler this week. The residue left from the original install is very apparent. It will be going back to the dealer to see what can be done.

In my opinion, the dealer is just playing it safe by informing the customer that there is a possibility of the paint coming off during the spoiler removal.
