making your exhaust crack at will ?

Chaps,
Can you make your exhaust pop and crack at will, when driving, is there a sweet spot, like in the M4 ?. I could make that pop and bang when i desired. I cant seem to find that in the M5 yet. Im only at 750 miles, so maybe a little more time for the exhaust to settle and open up ?. Have a look at this video, to see what im getting at. Starting at around 2.40mins in.

He also has another video where he says that BMW tweaked the exhaust, but just listen to it at around 4.20 mins. I cant believe that its standard, and BMW tweaked it for him?, by doing what ?.

As above works for me. However, if I'm passing say a Prius or a proud Tesla driver, it's required by law to pop+crackle as you do so. In my E63S, there's a guaranteed process--jab the gas hard and let right off--but I haven't found this works reliably in the M5 nor have I discovered its equivalent assuming there is one.

Shift down, but it doesn’t pop in 4th gear much and only a little in 3rd. I can only really make the loud pop consistently in 1-2nd. 3-4 just burble loudly.

Make sure you're in Sport+ with the engine, and the exhaust valve button next to the shifter is ON. You shouldn't have any problem making it pop around 2-3k RPM when you let off the throttle. It's not exclusive to the M5C.

It doesn't work reliably but I don't think I've tried to ensure I'm within a given RPM range, I can try that when I'm back.

Try having the transmission in the max setting while having the engine in sport+.
This is where it makes the loudest sounds when lifting off the gas pedal.

I can do it 100% reliably in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (a little in 4th), by dropping off the pedal or downshifting and having the RPMs drop through the ~4.5k->2k range. I run in Sport+, S3, etc... I know its juvenile but man I love it

I had a try last night, but it seemed to have a mind of its own, and did it when it fancied. Im only on 750 miles, and not had running in service yet, and im only revving to 5k rpms at times, so i wonder if im being to soft with it at this time ?. Maybe have a definite look again when you are next out, and report back ?, because the youth and juvenile in me needs to know . TIA .

On a side note, i have to say on the couple of occasions it did let go, it sounded epic, and had me questioning whether a change of exhaust is really needed ?.

Yours is just a baby yet! I'm at 7k and I actually started a thread about how good it now sounds. Once she starts to open up, sports plus w/ button on and revving up and letting off in D2 or 3 and especially is S2 or 3, will give you the "pops". You'll also notice a lot of gurgles. I get gurgles all the time in my daily driving mode in Sport plus and only D2.

making your exhaust crack at will ?

I'm around 8k...if I want loud snap crackle and pops I make sure to downshift with my paddles from 4th gear down and it sounds crazy. If I just accelerate to 4-5k rpms and let off quickly I also produce loud sounds (it used to do it at around 2500 but not as consistent as it was before).

From mine experience it won't do it consistently.
No matter what you do. There is times where it pops like shotgun and there is time it won't do it even dough you try it the same way a minute later.
Having DME tune with extra burble was extremely fun to drive, specially with both cats removed

Yup, as I said before --> +1. I'm at 6,000 miles but no exhaust or ECU mods.

These are my findings so far, at this early stage. When it does it, it is very satisfying, but when i try it again 2 seconds later, it wont do it, which is very frustrating. In the M4, i knew exactly what was going to happen at every stage.

Yup, I had M4 MT with M Performance exhaust and it was more consistent too.
But the MT gear ratio was different and going down hill and downshift was a killer

Started to pick up pops/gurgles from 1200+ miles onward. @ 1800 currently but expecting a bit more once the exhaust and car are fully settled in.

All I have to do is put my engine in sport + mode...just driving through my neighborhood (25 MPH speed limit) and letting off the gas as I meander onto and turn on other streets...that gets more than enough pops. I get a boatload of head turns from the joggers, mom's at the school bus stops, etc. It is hysterical!

I find that I can very reliably get very loud popping/backfire but putting it in sequential/manual shift mod, bring car up to speed to an engine RPM of about 4k, and just let off the gas to slow down (without shifting), and bang! Plenty of childish man-fun noise. LMAO!
