If you get pulled over for something else they will usually ding you for it because it's a policy but most cops understand that there isn't much upside in hassling wealthy, middle age businessmen over this sort of infraction.

They generally (correctly) assume that it's unlikely they are going to find any other violations to go along with it so it's just a waste of everyone's time.

That said, there's always that one guy with an ax to grind that could be having a bad day…

But considering I'm in New Jersey, New York city every day and I've only been to pulled over once in five years I'll continue to take my chances.

Never put a front plate on any of my cars and never a problem— I've been stopped for other reasons and one cop said " you know you should have a front plate?" I said "oh" and then he asked to take a pic of the car (i8) and then " have a nice day and thanks for the pic "...this is in NY state

I can confirm that in NYC cops will almost always pull you over for not having a front plate.

Funny, I'm in NYC several times a week and have never been pulled over for any reason.

I have a m2c and i just cannot manage to physically put a plate on the front bumper.

I dont want to use the tow hook. To me its ugly and if you wanna be technical your plate has to be in the middle of the bumper anyway.

My last car i used 3m tape because i didnt want to drill holes. The 3m automotive tape is very strong. But with the m2 i cannot figure out exactly where i want to place my front plate... i dont wanna block air flow to the engine 😂😂😂

There is just no place to put it that would not look bad. Ive gotten 6 tickets so far...

My previous m5 and f80 never had front plate maybe got ticketed 3-4 times, usually get away with it from my friends PBA card but you get those super cops that don't care. No front plate for me.

I installed an auto plate. I couldn't figure out how to post my own video so I'm posting a vid from the shop I used to install it.

I think you may have the night vision option that includes middle sensor.

If you street park in nyc some cop might get you with no front license plate too...

With the ACC there isn't really too many options out there I suppose

I just got pulled over today in Orange County, CA for not having my front plate. Got a fix it ticket. Now I have to install the front plates take it to the police station for the officers to check it.
Is there any way I can install the front plate without drilling a hole in the front bumper?

I have been pulled over twice in the past two weeks for no front license plate. Apparently, a new law went into effect March 1so it's a hot topic and a new incentive for generating $$$. I got a fix it ticket. $25 plus correction. Otherwise the fine is now $185. I don't want the constant headache and attention it brings by law enforcement but at the same time can't bear to deface this amazing car. Anyone have any ideas? Im not putting holes in my bumper and can't deal with the offset tow hook mount

I bought one of those. Waiting to install until I get my front bumper wrapped. Looks pretty sturdy. Uses 3m tape and one drill hole but it is tucked up on the undersurface so not really visible. Will sit close to the acc sensor but hopefully just above it. I can post pics after I install.

Look back at post #13 on this very same thread. shellbmb installed this exact same product right above the ACC sensor and posted pics, reporting no interference with the sensor’s normal functionality.

I currently use US Millworks’ tow hook mount for my front plate but now considering this sto-n-sho simply because it seems easier to remove and replace and leaves the plate in the proper centered position for when you do need to leave it on.

Plate in the middle is not a regulation

That is an incorrect statement according to NY license plate information from their site:
https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/VAT/402

This is what it says about location.
"...one on the front and one on the rear of such vehicle, each securely fastened so as to prevent the same from swinging and placed, whenever reasonably possible, not higher than forty-eight inches and not lower than twelve inches from the ground..."

There is no mention that it has to be in the middle of the bumper. A few cars come from factory with plates on the side: Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Mitsubishi.
Just wanted to clarify.

I use earth magnets on the plate holder, and earth magnets inside the bumper. When I take the car out I just place the plate in the front when I feel like it. Do that on all the cars I own, except I did not do it on the 2015 M4, which I traded to get the M5C.
