Velos ECU Tuning for your F90 M5 via OBD Port

Hello Everyone,

I've been spending a lot of time here on the F90 section with the enthusiasts interested in wheels for their new M’s and have been counting down the days until we could offer our F90 M5 tuning solution to you.

I think everyone can agree, this car out of the box is an animal and with our two solutions I am confident you will enjoy the full potential of your F90. I'll still be in the wheel section for anyone needing more renders, etc but if you have any additional questions on the tuning, traction concerns, etc then let me know!

Feel free to reach me via DM, carlos@velosdesignwerks.com or you can call 786-401-6520 ext. 105 for more details.

By now it is no secret that the BMW F90 M5 is a machine to be reckoned with. Coming from the factory with a claimed 600 hp and 553 torque testing has clearly proven the vehicle is underrated by nearly 100 horsepower. The F90 M5 yields an additional 100+ horsepower over its predecessor the F10 M5 along with an AWD system that also allows the user to change to a RWD mode. This 4.4L family of Twin Turbo motors from BMW has been a joy for our engineering team to work with, a solid platform once you stay within the factory safety parameters with an endless amount of torque the F90 M5 platform proved to be our favorite to date.

In the never-ending quest for additional reliable power our team has produced a Stage 2 Tune that produces peak gains of 135hp and 145 torque on a Competition Package equipped F90 m5. As you can see on the dyno chart below the gains throughout the rpm band are steady at roughly 90hp and 90 tq after the peak torque earlier on in the RPM range and all the way to the peak Horsepower at 5600 rpm. With adjustments to fuel, ignition, limiters and other parameters the results raise this “Family Sedan” to a new level. All changes done well within factory specs with all safety parameters left in tact.

We also have a Stage 1 Available (65-70hp and 80tq) currently with introductory price.

*Note: All dyno runs completed on same day in fifth gear. Final programming done minutes after run in stock form.

*This upgrade works with our Velos Personal Tuner for remote programming worldwide*

Velos Designwerks performance software key features include but are not limited to:

Improved Throttle Response
Re-calibrated settings for a smoother part throttle transitions
Re-calibrated settings for a smoother and more linear power delivery
Raised RPM thresholds (where applicable)
Increased Boost levels
Re-calibrations for end user’s available premium fuel (91/93oct. or 100oct)
Off road only/track use tunes available.
Top Speed Limiter removal
Exhaust burble increase on decal (same as factory sound) / Optional “pops” available.

Dyno Runs:
note* all testing below done on the same day. Vehicle programming done on the dyno (no time for adaptation).

STD Correction:

SAE Correction:

Condition:

Consecutive Runs:

Peak Torque Gains:

Shows max gains (difference) between run in stock form as well as with the Stage 2 Upgrade

Hope all is well, thank you for the question. the peak gains of 135hp and 145 torque are measured at the crank. The dyno charts show the actual peak gains and where they are measured at the wheel. Those gains are ~ 112hp and ~125 tq. The runs are displayed in both STD and SAE for those interested along with the conditions of that day with corresponding fuel across the board. Please let me know if you have any other questions and we are also available via phone at 7864016520

Why are some previous other dyno's showing stock baseline of 625whp for the F90 M5 and this one 571whp?

I'd guess companies using different brand dynos (Mustang, Dynojet, etc) and different conditions (elevation, fuel, temperature, etc).

Noticed on a few other runs and with our friends at IND made 20-25 more on average which makes sense given the different cities, dyno, etc.

The main purpose was to show the before and after in a controlled environment on the same day. A few things are for sure with this Beast is that they consistently pull the same #’s in stock form and tuned, as well as being underrated from factory. We shared conditions and SAE for those interested but I'm sure a 40 degree difference would yield another ~10-15 hp on the conservative side.

IND Dyno'd 625 wheel horsepower and 608 lb/ft torque oem stock

Ok was just curious if these M5's stock had that much variances in power.....you Dyno'd 586whp stock with STD correction and Burger 619whp on STD correction as well....thats a 34whp difference! and IND 39whp difference

Hey,

No worries just trying to show the before and after from that day. They will vary a bit due to the vehicle itself, climate, dyno etc. IND did a few runs in fifth gear 604,607,611,606, and then the fifth run looks like it hit 625 at around 5900 rpm in a mini spike. On these 500+ hp vehicles and without weather being so miserable both vehicles seem to be on par with one another in stock form.

Looking forward to more from this platform and the best part is there is still more room
on the table. Love the Marina Bay btw, something about Blue on an M5 that always gets me (especially with the E39)

Excellent work and, yes, I agree with everything you are saying but the differences due to weather, air density, dynos ....................etc. Just good to know that the pursuit for a 9 second F90 goes on.
