M sport exhaust - any drone?
Need the forum’s help! I have a few days left to add/change options on my build and I’m am undecided on the exhaust. This will be my daily - when I test drove the comp I noticed a fairly significant low frequency drone at highway speed that I did not recall being present in the base I drove (base had standard exhaust). I am now wondering if I had the settings off or not. Does anyone having the m sport exhaust in a non-comp (base) notice a drone at highway speed (low rpm / overdrive) when they have the button off and engine in Normal setting? Also, am I correct in assuming that ASD “fake exhaust” sounds are turned OFF when in settings of engine normal / exhaust button off? Thanks a bunch!

What is the difference between the standard F90 exhaust, the M Sport exhaust and the M Performance exhaust?

hey Canadian F90M5 I saw you responded to my question in your "two week" thread where I first asked it. Thanks a bunch! Let me know if you notice any drone now that I have introduced the concept via subliminal suggestion lol.

I can test it tonight, in both modes (on and off) as I continue my nightly drives to get my Km's to 2000 👍🏼

Appreciate the test report. Thanks a bunch. Hard to say why / what I was hearing during my comp test drive as the exhausts should be the same.

I’m still confused. I ordered (built via the BMWNA website) on 5/18/19 [production completed on 5/28 - awaiting shipping now...] and there were and still isn’t any option to choose an exhaust system option. So, my question is: What is the default, factory installed, exhaust system that I am to receive?

If you ordered a Competition M5 you get the sport exhaust. If you did not talk to your dealer and add the M performance exhaust, you of course will not get that with either car. The only exhaust you would pay extra for on top of the price of either car is the M performance exhaust. And if you're not sure, I guarantee you did not buy it. |

I ordered the M5 Base so it’s going to be Standard exhaust. Is the Standard good? I personally don’t want to have the loud, raspy and guttural exhaust sounds anyway. I’m prefer it to be conservative in nature. So, my guess is, I’m probably getting what I want anyway w/out shelling out more cash.
Thanks for your quick reply! |

My F90 Comp with the M Sport Exhuast has no drone.
But I would like to check with owners with the M Sport Exhuast. Does the Exhuast button on the centre console do anything? I tried pressing it on and off but the volume and sound of the exhuast seems to be exactly the same. Anyone else with the M Sport exhuast has a different experience?

With the M performance exhaust, which is totally valveless, the button will control crackles/pops on deceleration/downshifting. I assume it would be similar with the M sport, although it has valves unlike the MPE.
