It seems like it, and that's what I'm being told.
I can't verify one way or another, but from what I've read on here the "RAM chip" affects all cars, but those with B&W require a different chip that isn't as readily available as the one for non-B&W cars

Pardon my ignorance. Why are the relevant chips being installed at the port and not from the factory, so when they arrive at the port, they can be dispatched to the dealers for the next steps?

If you don't have a chip, what would you do? Let the car sit in Germany for a month before you can get one then have to ship it to USA or ship it here so that when you do get a chip you can install it and give the car to the customer? That's basically what it comes down to. It's a lot easier to fly chips to America than wait for chips and have to ship cars.

I would rather BMW just wait until they have all the parts before they start producing my car. I fortunately am not affected, but that would be my preference.

Got it. I just assumed that car would sit in Germany.

Agree. Personally I would 100% prefer that and no one will get their hopes up because it's arrived at the port and get more disappointed with the further delays.

So instead of having your car lined up in a queue to get the part you'd rather them just wait until 2023 to finally deliver your car because they prioritized the cars that were already completed and waiting to be delivered?

Yes, I would prefer to wait. For me there is never a rush to purchase. I have several cars. I am a process guy and prefer the assembly process variation be minimal.

Mine got to Baltimore on the same day. I just took delivery a few days ago. BMW changed my order, removing B&W. I still waited almost two months at port. Hopefully you're close.

I ended up pulling the trigger on a similar spec new m5comp car on an out of market dealer lot New Year's Eve. They were ready to make a deal and we got it done. The car I originally ordered is still stuck at port and with lots of travel coming up, I simply needed a car. If anyone is interested send me a PM and I can link you up with the car I bailed on. I assume they'll try and go over MSRP now that I backed out.

Do you know if they will make it available again on the configurator for cars that are being ordered the second week of January and onwards? or will they keep it unavailable for the configurator and try to fulfill the previously placed orders that opted for the B&W?

My car has been at the port for a month this week. I’m staying patient and just glad it made it to the US.

If I had to assume, they’re drowning already trying to satisfy cars that are built and waiting on the chip. I doubt they’re put it back in the configuration until they have a slight surplus. I’m just guessing tho.

The storage of cars waiting for parts must also be an ongoing issue.

Fill up the lots in Germany, when they get too full, start shipping them to the US. Slow down the process while waiting for parts/modules/chips to backfill.

Anyone with the B&W system get their car recently? Really wondering if my car is a week away from getting the chip or months away. Blows my mind to think it could be months, but I definitely wouldn’t say it’s not possible.

My M5C with B&W was delivered on 12/28/21. It's getting PPF and ceramic now. Ordered the car with an allocation on 7/2/21 so it was slow going. Patience is a virtue…at least that's what I kept telling myself. It really is a great car although I've only put about 100 miles on it so far.
