6th annual "Summer Sunrise" drive 6/12, Bucks County PA
****Updated****
Wanted to post this for all the M5 people in the area... Wanted to open this up to my local M brethren...every 2nd weekend in June for the past 5 years a few of us local gearheads have done an early morning drive to celebrate and usher in the summer driving season. Usually it's just a small group of us that meet about 5:45am and Usually leave about 6:15am and take a nice, sometimes "spirited" drive (on the roadways where is safe to do so) through the Bucks County River country (Delaware River) and then end our drive at a local coffee/bagel shop for a cars and coffee type event. It's a very scenic and picturesque drive and it's awesome that time of the morning to be driving as the sun is coming up (also very little traffic). For those of you who joined on our fall covered bridge tour, the route is very similar, so you know the roads are really fun to drive. I'll be adding the meeting point, route and coffee shop where we finish up for our cars and coffee in the coming weeks, but just wanted to get it out there so you could mark your calenders. Hoping to turn this into an annual "M" event. The rain date is the very next morning, Sunday 6/13. ****Menard Premium Detailing/Gratr Garage in Ivyland PA will be sponsoring the drive and Cars and coffee afterward! They are located at: 125 Industrial Dr, Warminster, PA 18974 The drive and meeting points are as follows: The meeting point is the parking lot in front of the Staples (between Staples and Chik-Fil-A) at: The Newtown Shopping Center 10 West Rd, Newtown PA 18940 This is about 10 mins off the Newtown Exit on I-295. Meeting date/time: Saturday June 12th between 5:45am and 6:15am. Drive begins at 6:20am. The Drive: We will be driving through historic Washington's Crossing PA area and New Hope PA and heading north along the Delaware River to upper Bucks County. Along the way will pass through some small river towns, a few covered bridges and a few nice twisty roads. The plan is to stop at the historic Van Sant Airport in Upper Bucks for a group photograph of all the cars with the airfield and planes in the background. After stopping at Van Sant, a few more twisties, and then on to our Sponsor's shop for a cars and coffee/open house event. I will map out the route and hand out directions the morning of the drive in case it's a large group and separation occurs. The rain date will be the very next morning Sunday 6/13. Any cancelation of the Saturday event due to impending bad weather will be made by 9pm on Friday the 11th.****

Would love to join but I'll be away. If date changes to the following week (for some reason) just post and I'll be there!

Here is the route if anyone wants it ahead of time. We will stop at Van Sant Historic Airport for a group photo...and I believe there are a few port-o-potties there as well.

Please let me know if you plan on attending this event as the vendor is making accommodations based on group size. Thanks. If you have already responded that you are attending, thank you. I have added the following names to the list. Let me know if I missed you or you are no longer interested if on the list. If you have additional non bimmerpost friends coming I can +1 them if you let me know.

Those who have indicated that they will be attending the Sunrise Drive on 6/12...the vendor has asked that we "close" any further sign ups as it appears they will be at capacity for parking based on the amount of responses we have received. There may be some limited street parking available if their facility overflows. If you plan on just joining for just for the drive, there is no issue adding more cars, but for the cars and coffee afterwards we are reaching capacity. If you have already signed up, we should be able to get you parked. Thank you for your understanding!

As a reminder, with the weather somewhat of an unknown for this Saturday, if the rain date needs to be used...I will post that no later than Friday evening. So make sure to check back with this thread if the weather forecast is iffy on Saturday. Thanks!

**We look good to go!**
Based on the 24 and 48 hour weather forecast, Saturday looks like it will be the better morning of the two weekend days so we are on for our original planned date! As with all forecasts, they are never perfect...so fingers crossed it holds out. A few last minute items and reminders: Please check out the Google maps link that was posted to this thread. It has the complete route and turn by turn directions. This will be a large group of cars and I expect separation to occur at times, so having the route is imperative. I will have a few printed copies available, but unless you have a passenger its hard to read written directions while concentrating on driving. So please consider using the Google maps directions with your smart phones or Nav systems. Unfortunately there are no 24 hour gas stations near our meeting point and once we set out...we are not stopping as a group to get fuel, so make sure you have at least enough fuel for at least a 75 mile trip. There is a Lukoil station about 5 mins from our meeting point that opens at 6am if you need to top off, but we are leaving at 6:20am SHARP. Last point...and it goes without saying...this is a fun cruise, not a race event. It's going to be a large group of cars so make sure to leave a few car lengths between you and the car in front of you for safety purposes. While we may not have to contend with much vehicle traffic at that time of the morning, there are bicyclists, joggers, and DEER out then (yes thats why it's called Bucks County lol). We don't want to ruin a great morning with a traffic related incident. Just have fun and take pics and videos if you can. See you tomorrow! |
