Any luck on the coding of US rear taillights
So everything codes fine but u lose welcome lights. I use pathway lighting now as don't have welcome anymore. For pathway u just press the alarm button once and lights come on so an extra step but works fine.

So what happens if you keep the welcome lights (halos) on in iDrive? Do you get malfunction errors on the iDrive display? Trying to understand how these would cause issues as welcome lights are headlights only, aren't they?

Front headlight welcome lights work the same way. Rear only inner taillights work for welcome lights.

If you start the car before the welcome lights shut off (they shut off in 15 seconds) then you will get iDrive errors and turn signals won't work properly.

If you wait 15 seconds and then start the car, then no errors and turn signals will work properly.

Great info, thank you! No ability to change the 15 seconds I'm assuming?

So had this done on Friday and I have to admit they look so, so much better than the early models (I have a 2018 & had it for 2 years now so I needed something as was getting bored of the look). Just makes the car look so fresh and I cant believe how such a relatively small thing can make such a dramatic difference. Anyway, that was the good news. The bad news is that there is an intermittent fault message of Brake light left and some times right failure. Funny thing is the break lights are actually working so im hoping its something to do with the coding. The BMW dealership installed these so I will be back in contact with them tomorrow. The strange thing is it does not happen all the time and maybe once in every 10 starts and from what I can gather its first thing in the morning after the car has sat for a while. Once the message comes on, if I switch the car off and then back on it normally resets and all is fine. Any ideas before I go back to the dealership would be appreciated so I can maybe point them in the right direction. I know they will have no idea why its doing this as its their first. Thanks.

Talk to leeadam he has successfully had his lights retrofitted in UK, and has a recommended coder there too. I would not waste your time with the dealer.

Thanks and I might need to. The whole idea getting the dealer to retro fit them was so that when its time to trade the car in, I didn't want any bull from the dealers saying oh we cant take it in. Plus I have warranty until November and have been burnt before with doing things like this without dealer involvement. I will let the dealership have one crack first but I might have to. Cheers

Ate the bulbs the same? If not it could be something like the bulb check detecting different heat or current draw.

These are brand new LCI units so if I am honest I have no idea, but worth mentioning when I chat to them. Thanks

Hey guys,

as a forum should be there to help each other, instead of constantly offering services for money, I would like to share a coding solution, that works without throwing errors.

Please note, that this refers to the EURO spec rear lights on a European car, where you also need to run 2 additional wires to the BDC and re-pin the inner connector.

What I did in terms of coding:
1. Update car to latest I-Step 21-03
2. Perform LCI Rear Light retrofit measures within ISTA (this will still throw a break-light error)
3. In BDC code:
  • BL_L_Warmueberwachung & BL_R_Warmueberwachung to "nicht_aktiv"
  • BL_L_CCM & BL_R_CCM to "off"

Here you go, the rear lights work w/o error

Coding CCM off will get rid of the Idrive error message, however error will still appear in ISTA, and after XY internal errors BDC will automaticly lock the output for inner lights (turn signal or binner brake lights). After that they need to be manully unlocked in ISTA.

P.s this is for Euro spec cars. Not sure about US.

I wonder if anyone found a solution to get rid of the fault and lock of the output of inner lights after a while .

It may not be related but my parking brake is also throwing faults after retrofit but working fine after start of the car for 1 minutes and then stop working!!(fault code is H bridge faulty) and Ista says that the only solution is to change DSC unit !

There is lots of misinformation appearing, due to so many ways that this modification can be done. Lots of people chiming in, but they have European cars and different coding. There is also people installing Euro lights on USA cars. There are also others installing USA lights on USA cars but making them work in European sequence.

My thread stands as USA lights on USA cars, with USA turn signal and brake light sequence. To this day there is no solution to what I describe in my initial guide. My welcome lights are just turned off in IDrive. I never get any errors, no errors at the dealer and I've been enjoying this mod a lot, and so are many people on this board.

Also member by the name GTATX found that solution, when with the key fob you can still turn on the Walk Me Home/Pathway lights, and I use that time to time if I want to see angel eyes and etc work upon opening my car.

I totally agree mismatching coding with us or euro lights, then coding us vs euro is totally different. I personally love the us lights function and even if we don't get welcome lights it's not a big deal as pathway lights are good enough with an extra push of a button.
