I think this has serious potential to lead in a very strong segment as BMW intends it to.

Never had any doubt about it after seeing both the new Porsche Panamera and E63 S came in even heavier than the previous generation, both over 2000 Kg.

They are going after a different sort of buyers.

The official weight is listed at 1930 Kg, F10 is 1945 Kg, that's pretty impressive considering they have now added a AWD system.

I like it as a whole but the interior to me is just an utter mish mash of a lot of things... the m buttons and that shifter just seem off... auto tranny doesnt help either.... we'll have to see how it drives.

Garage List
2011.5 BMW M3  [10.00]
2004 BMW M3  [10.00]
While the overall shape and profile is very similar to the F10, this is still a very good looking car.
The F10 was a handsome machine anyway, so any evolutionary similarities in appearance aren't necessarily bad.

I may be in the minority, but I think the front looks badass.
If anything, it's the rear that's a tad awkward.

Is it me or does each generation of M5 seem like we're getting less and less value, to the point where the F90 feels like a ripoff..? The M5 used to be... I dunno, special? We used to get bespoke engines and transmissions and suspensions... The E39 engine had 8 individual throttle bodies... The E60 was a freegin V-10 that revved to 8500 rpm! With the F-10, was disappointed the engine was largely sourced from the stock engine, but at least it had a high performance DCT tranny.... With the new M5, what the heck is the M-premium going towards exactly...? The profit margins for the F-90 must be through the roof.... Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the new car will be quick for sure, and I'm fully aware of that the sole purpose of any business is to make money, period. But as a long time m enthusiast and current F-10 driver, it's just a little sad I guess.....

I think the competition within the luxury performance segment is excellent.

Previous and current performance sedans are typically laden with safety features, technology and all-wheel drive systems are not lightweights, and you as well other here know these types of cars transition from generation to generation with more of these attributes with increased weight as an underlying detriment.

Whatever weight that has been removed from the F90 M5 is a plus. The new Panamera looks refreshing in the metal since it's launch and Mercedes-AMG continues its push but without much emotion to its car. Although typical Mercedes-Benz, but they own the sound department.

It's the hideous Audi RS7 with its exotic car straight line acceleration, road holding and wet weather abilities that that I have to begrudgingly say leads this particular segment. With BMW M coming after them now, hard.

Duno if anyone else noticed, but fuel tank capacity is down to 17.9 gallons (68L) vs 21.92 gallons (83L) in the F10. Stupid.

Pulling a Mercedes with the 'First Edition' nonsense. Will wait to see it.

The shift lights in the heads-up display is nice.
