I'll post some pics tomorrow. Sound is amazing and bass is great. I'm sure install could have between better but works for me without screwing things up or tearing anything apart.

B&W wasn't even an option when I placed my order at the beginning of October, so I'm definitely going to spend some coin upgrading the audio. Was thinking a custom sub box and swapping out the cabin H/K speakers for Focal or similar. |

If sound quality is the primary consideration, I would mount the sub as close to the rear of the trunk as possible. Less cancellation that way. Putting a sub up against the rear seat backs will result in a phase cancellation from the trunk lid reflection.

I'm surprised though that the Bowers&Wilkins is not enough to deliver the right sound for you. Best of luck. |

I'm guessing OP is aware of the subs. I am. And it's nowhere near enough bass for the car. The car is going in soon for a new amp and a replacement of the 8" subs and adding a 10" sealed sub in the trunk to help with bass extension and control. I'll report back on what it's like afterward. For reference, I am a home audiophile... run CaryAudio Amps, Paradigm Signature speakers and Rega Turntable. So for me, the B&W is better but has a lot to be desired.

Been getting Facebook ads for them for a week now. The ad has them pulling the sub from out from under the seat and installing theirs. This is quite an old thread but first thing I just thought of thanks to those ads lol.

So, massively dissapointed in the Bowers and Wilkins in my 2022 M5.
Had a G30 540i with HK before and this was better. I believe the issue is the complete lack of warm and substantial bass. Started investigating subs and amps but had a mess about before I pressed the button as this is a new car and I don't want to be messing about, nor should I have to considering the expense of this option. So, I have been messing around with the EQ and settings, a lot the last 2 months since I picked up my brand new car. In EQ, obviously boosted 100Hz, the lowest frequency to try and address the woeful lack of bass depth. This seemed to make it worse or at least did not address the lack of warmth in the overall sound. I therefore got some test tones on a USB stick, 40Hz, 60Hz, and 80Hz. I was flabbergasted to see that when playing these test tones, my adjustment of the lowest eq band, 100Hz did absolutely nothing. I then moved the Bass up and down and this changed the amplification of the sub 100Hz frequencies. However, when you move Bass or Treble, it pulls up the other frequencies, which makes it sound crap again. The solution is to therefore counter this effect of increased mid bass by the eq. My eq setting are therefore as follows and have addressed the issue. It now sounds acceptable to me and has at least a decent amount of depth. Set everything to middle (0), including bass and treble: 100Hz -3 200Hz -3 500Hz -2 1KHz -0 2KHz 0 5KHz 0 10KHz 0 Bass +10 Treble +2 to +6 depending on tune Fader -2 to -3 depending on tune Sound stage - Studio. Some of the other sound stages sound good but as other posts, seem to lose some of the already seriously lacking sub-bass. Hope the above helps. No idea why the system is like this in these cars. Someone seriously messed up. The above settings address this to a certain extent and make the system sound much more premium. I will still consider getting a sub but at least now I can listen to it and smile, albeit more marginally than I would perhaps have liked. |

We have Revel Salon 2s as well. Follow setup instructions for EQ and system gets incredibly good for a vehicle based system! |

Today, I went to the installer and showed them this thread (your post mainly) and told them this is what I wanted to have done. I was going to PM you about this, but I thought asking you on the thread would leave some info for someone else needing help with this in the future. I’d love to pick your brain on a couple of things based on my conversation with the installer if you don’t mind… There is some concern that the rear deck under the windshield isn’t too solid. Seems like just banging on with my hand hard enough gets it to rattle. Does you rear deck rattle underneath the sub with music playing? And how strong are those straps, doesn’t it shift around? It looks like it could slide and inch or two in each direction constantly. And do you have the straps secured to the two posts for the head rest? Does it stay out? Did you have the bass knob installed? Where did they run/hide the wires and where did you place your bass knob? Booked my appointment already, but still unsure if I am going to go through with it. I trust your experience way more than the shop’s installer. And finally, I know you addressed this with your comment about having massaging seats, but how hard does this hit? Like you, I am not looking for extreme bass. Just looking to fill the (bass) hole of my HK system. Thanks in advance for any advice you have!

I know what you are going through and I have recently added an amp and sub to great effect. The general advice is that you need a big sub as the 5 series is so well insulated.
I can provide more details when I get on computer later this week |

I added to my 2018 M550i an Audio Audiocontrol 1.300 Amp with built in LOC and a JL Audio 10W3 in a side enclosure. Plug and play utilizing a Technicpnp harne.
