Is it definitely painted? I always thought it was actually a piece of brushed aluminum or something. If so you might basically scuff it all one direction a few times with some 0000 steel wool or something similar.

Adam's spray ceramic / graphene might do it. All the companies have a variation. Spray on, spread around with a rag, wait for the rainbow to appear and begin to fade, then buff off.
I've done a few things but not wheels, but all that I've read from folks claim it's great regarding brake dust - or at least getting it off easily. I've also been a fan of the Sonax wheel cleaners, also Adam's "tire and wheel" cleaner as well. With the right brush the brake dust goes away pretty quickly even with no coating on the wheels. |

I think I'll run with em. At least install them and see how I like em... On another note, another project in the background. Last edited by mkeiser; 05-07-2024 at 05:17 PM.. |

I just went through a jug of the sonax but can’t justify spending that much for wheels that don’t get that dirty (except for right now hehe)

I read / watch comparison crap at night sometimes, this one supposedly is just as good and is about half the price. You could also consider using a lot less... Might still be pretty effective. |

When I was doing drive homework while shopping for my 1er, the very first thing I decided—literally when I sat down in the very first one I'd ever been in—was that sport seats were a non-negotiable requirement. The "comfort" seats are anything but and particularly in leatherette they felt like econocar bench seats. |

I was wrong earlier, I didn't use CQuartz, I used Adams wheel ceramic coat. It came as a kit, bought it on Amazon. This is right after they were powder coated and ceramic coated... |

If one were to take the wheels off and do a lot with them, I'd agree to use the small bottle and an applicator. After a certain amount of work already, may as well do the complete job. I had in mind just shooting them while they are on the car still, after a good wash. Do that a couple times a year. User preference! |

After buying a used set Apex wheels (on this forum), I used Sonax to clean up the wheels. Then, geyon's ceramic coating before mounting tires. I still get brake dust from BMW stock brake pads, but way easier to clean. No more scubbing with a brush in between the spokes. Rinse and wipe...looks squeeky clean.

Does the "1er" refer to the car or was that 1st grade art class?

Why the hell did this site stop telling me people were responding to me?? Anyway, yeah thanks I had just assumed it was painted from the photos I had seen but on closer inspection i Think it is brushed aluminum with some clear coat but I'm not super sure. Don't really know If I can fix a piece of brushed aluminum... Open to suggestions.

That was the suggestion, hit it with super fine steel wool and put new scratches in it, basically. Scratches = brush marks.
