Not ever having been the guy who leaves well enough alone, I wasn't totally pleased with the closed-top dry element filter included in the AEM kit so I took some measurements and determined that two of these will fit. Got em on order and will report back once installed. I doubt I will notice a difference but it will make me feel happy so that's good enough for me

It's guys like you that lead us into the modding rabbit hole lol.
AFE for me seems like a well balanced choice, but I just can't seem to shake off my curiosity with the Eventuri's... especially with Black Friday coming up + a $500 store credit I was thinking of getting one for $1500.. just looks so damn good!

It comes down to this: oiled outflows dry by a lot. Dry out filters oiled by a little. Oiled takes longer to saturate with dirt, so needs cleaning less frequently. And finally, if a filter is over-oiled it can foul a MAF. Pros and Cons on both sides. But for a track car which is my use case, I'd rather have highest possible flow. The main reason I am trying this change is to maximize filter surface area, which the AFE does with the pleated top portion. |

Updates, with pics!
AFE Filters: the Pro 5R filters arrived today and I installed them immediately. I wasn't expecting any noticeable performance differences but again was pleasantly proven wrong. Oiled filters flow moderately more than dry (with slightly less filtration efficiency), and the AFE filter has more surface area than the AEM supplied one (which is manufactured by K&N). This is evident from the photos. The changes I noticed were a futher increase in turbo spool noise, and even a bit more throttle responsiveness, likely thanks to the futher de-throttling of the intake (ie less flow impedance). Second thing I did was head over to my tech and we teamed up to install my new AA EL resonated midpipe. The rest of my exhaust system is OE CS. I gotta say, I really like this combo. Smoother, but not raspy and just loud enough for my liking. Cold start thankfully did not become obnoxious, and burbles are not crackle-popping (which is not my cup of tea). If I make any more exhaust changes it will be to upgrade to AA Gesi catted DPs, when I tune the motor out of warranty. On to the pics! |

That's a big difference! Wonder how it compares to BMS filters or even Eventuri's. AA's EL Resonated is definitely a must-do, I'm looking to change it up with the new Valvetronic EL catback.

No clue on the Eventuri or any of the other really pricey intakes, but compared to the official AFE intake setup, I like that this AEM uses a filter with a 5" flange and then a velocity stack to go down to the 3" tubing, rather than how the AFE uses a 3" flange filter, which means there's likely a 90 degree angle being navigated inside the filter in transition to the intake tubes.

Hmm interesting, I definitely would not have thought that far, but these inputs are what makes the forums so much more informative than the typical shop, vendor, or youtuber.
That all being said, I really envy you CS owners especially if you got them new. I thought the Comp was the more "practical" choice over CS's price difference, but now I am modifying it to look like the CS. Gold 763M, aero, even the hood and maybe even the CF roof. The CS would have at least held its value! Well, at least I don't feel so bad with messing around with the Comp!

Grill mesh
On my quest to build my OEM+ M2CS, I planned on some winter upgrades to do while the car is sitting in the garage.
I ordered FaRKle! kidney grill mesh to install. I ordered extra mesh from Amazon to install in the lower grills and the underneath to protect the oil cooler. I read up on Malakas findings and design of getting fresh air to the air intakes. I was surprised to find that the intakes get air from the hot engine bay, and not fresh air. He collaborated with Commanderwiggin to manufacture and sell. Both of these upgrades require the removal of the bumper. In the end, I’m very satisfied with the finished product. |

Bumper removal was not difficult. You just have to remove a a lot of little screws. Power tools make it a lot easier. I used FaRKle! video as a guide. |

I do have the Eventuri intakes, so no appreciable change in sound. But just looking at the path of air in the stock setup, makes you scratch your head as to why it’s blocked off from fresh air. There was a good discussion on the topic with both subjective and objective improvements.

Did you upgrade the brake booster and/or coding? In a pallet? wow.. I guess the parts are bigger when packaged than one might imagine. I'm jealous!
